This week, our CEO and CMO attended the Virginia General Assembly to advocate for access to evidence-based addiction treatment services across the Commonwealth.

Our team spoke with many legislators, including Senator Otto Wachsmann, representing the 83rd District, to share real-world insights from the front lines of behavioral health care and reinforce the importance of policies that support timely, effective treatment for people and families impacted by substance use. This was a valuable experience and invited meaningful discussions on how we can shape the future of addiction care in Virginia.

We are grateful for leaders who make space to listen and engage on issues that truly save Virginian lives.

The African-American community has contributed greatly to the addiction and mental health community, creating breakthroughs in what we know about addiction science today.

Last year, we spotlighted 6 important figures in the behavioral health field, highlighting the strides in modern addiction medicine and access equity, and we'd like to pay homage to these figures once more.

Without the work of these figures and countless others, dozens of therapy models, research centers, and scientific advancements wouldn't exist today. We thank this community for their efforts in bettering the lives of millions. Read more here: https://mastercenter.com/prominent-black-figures-in-addiction-research-and-psychology/

Today is , and we'd like to take a moment to bring awareness to the work of these professionals and their unseen battles with addiction. We offer a variety of services for these groups and those they serve, including addiction psychiatry for co-occurring disorders like PTSD, a professionals' support group, and recovery coaching.

We thank those in law enforcement for their work in both protecting us and getting people the help they need!

Addiction is a complex brain disease that affects millions of people, but many aren't familiar with the science and source behind it. In turn, fear, stigma, and lack of education make it difficult for people to properly identify addiction and access appropriate resources.

That's why on Jan. 12 at 12 pm, in partnership with the Virginia Council for Problem Gambling, our certified addiction counselors will hold an educational seminar on how drug addiction is a complex brain disease that overlaps with behavioral addictions, like gambling, and explore evidence-based ways to combat relapse.

Tailored for therapists and counselors, registration is free, so reserve your spot today! https://vpgh.jotform.com/253373742135961
