🌟 Meet Robert A. Angle — Partner, Regulatory Litigation at Troutman Pepper Locke🌟

We are thrilled to welcome Robert Angle to the Sheltering Arms Foundation Board. Robert is an accomplished attorney who guides clients through complex regulatory disputes across a variety of industries. In addition to leading his firm’s Intellectual Property Practice, he represents clients in commercial litigation at both the trial and appellate levels.

A proud double ’Hoo, Robert holds a B.A. in History and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

He has also demonstrated a deep commitment to the Richmond community through his board service with Venture Richmond, The Valentine and now Sheltering Arms Foundation.

Robert's connection to Arms Institute is especially meaningful. His wife, Eleanor, is a former patient and now a dedicated peer mentor volunteer. Her passion for art has also led her to serve actively on the Sheltering Arms Art Wall Committee.

Together, Robert and Eleanor have two adult daughters, Virginia and Ellie, and a yellow Labrador named Rigley—who keeps the whole family smiling.

We are grateful for the Angle family’s commitment and the positive impact they continue to make in our community. 💙

🌟 Celebrating Bill Mayo and the Power of Community Generosity! 🌟

We’re proud to share Bill’s story, after losing a limb, Bill’s determination, hard work, and perseverance have inspired everyone who has the privilege of knowing him. 💪💛.

When Bill—also a member of the Middlesex County Moose Lodge—learned that much of the advanced technology in our outpatient centers is made possible through philanthropy, he encouraged his Lodge to make a gift to Sheltering Arms Foundation.

His passion sparked a friendly challenge to the Richmond East Lodge, which also made a gift in Bill’s honor. These contributions will support our Margin of Excellence programs, helping fund advanced rehab technology, specialized clinician education, and innovative therapy programs.

🙌 Thank you, Bill, and thank you to both Moose Lodges for making a meaningful impact in our community!

🌟 Welcome, Whitney Pinna! 🌟

We’re thrilled to introduce Whitney Pinna, Assistant Vice President of HR Transformation & Operations at CarMax, to the Sheltering Arms Foundation Board of Directors!

Whitney is deeply committed to community service, reflected in her work with organizations such as Goochland Cares, the Massey Alliance, and her many contributions to the CarMax Foundation.

Her connection to Sheltering Arms is personal and profound. Whitney’s father received care at Sheltering Arms, and she describes his recovery as nothing short of miraculous. That experience fuels her passion for strengthening rehabilitation and recovery services for others in our community.

Whitney is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A.) and the University of Richmond School of Law (J.D.). She lives in Richmond with her husband and two boys, where they love caring for their farm animals and exploring the outdoors together.

The Sheltering Arms Foundation team recently joined our colleagues on the Sheltering Arms Club Rec team to learn more about an inspiring new program, Opening Minds through Art (OMA). 🎨🧠

OMA is an evidence-based program that promotes creativity, self-expression, and meaningful connection for people living with dementia and other neurological diagnoses. Through structured artistic practice, participants are empowered to create beautiful artwork that builds confidence, joy, and social engagement.

We're grateful to , a local nonprofit and certified OMA Master Trainer organization for helping to bring this program to our community. Last fall, and Lauren Glaser earned their OMA certification, and we had the chance to follow along as they demonstrated how art can be an important part of recovery and well-being.

Programs like OMA are possible thanks to generous community support of Club Rec. If you'd like to make a gift to help sustain and expand programming like this, please visit: 👉 www.shelteringarmsfoundation.org/donate

We left inspired by the power of creativity - and excited to see the impact this program will have on the people we serve. 💙🎨

🌟 Suellen’s Story of Strength 🌟
In January 2021, Suellen’s life changed forever. After battling COVID and pneumonia, she continued to experience numerous health challenges—leading to the amputation of her leg.

Her journey since then has been nothing short of inspiring. This year, Suellen pushed herself to new heights by completing a triathlon!

She gives back every day as a volunteer at Sheltering Arms—sharing hope through the Limb Loss Support Group, comforting patients with her therapy dog Miller, and serving as a Peer Mentor. She’s also a proud donor who challenged her friends to give on her “amp-a-versary.”

Suellen says:
“If I can overcome and keep giving back, it makes me stronger.”

Now, she invites YOU to join her in making a difference. Thanks to the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, your gift goes further! For every $2 donated online, Sheltering Arms Foundation receives an extra $1 in match funding.
