Need to shovel after last night's snow? Make sure to appropriately prepare and do so carefully to avoid injury! Remember to:

• Warm up - stretches make your muscles more flexible and less likely to cramp.
• Stay hydrated - Even in cold weather, hydration is essential during shoveling.
• Take breaks - Listen to your body; if you're tired, or out of breath, take a rest.
• Bend with your knees - Use a stable stance and lift with your left (not your back), keeping good posture.
• Dress in layers - Layering clothing can keep you warmer in the cold.
• Take your time - It's not a race, shoveling slowly reduces strain on your heart.
• Use smaller shovels - That way, you're lifting less heavy snow.
• And push instead of lifting - Opt for pushing and sweeping over lifting and throwing.

It's Valentine's Day tomorrow and, to celebrate, our colleagues on 7 West held a very special event: Patients and team members were invited to witness the union of unit mascots Phyl and Phyllis West. Team members from throughout the unit contributed to the event, including providing the perfect wedding attire for the bride and groom, and hosting a "reception" in the breakroom.

Congratulations to the newlyweds and happy Valentine's Day to all!

Congratulations to Kelsey W**d, MPH, and Tonia Lewis, RN, from Community Outreach, for receiving People Who Care recognitions for Q3 2025!

In their nomination, they were praised for their compassion during a community-based hypertension education class. When a participant presented with dangerously high blood pressure with symptoms, and refused 911 assistance, they personally accompanied the participant to the Emergency Department, ensuring the participant received the care needed. Their actions exemplify the vital role Community Outreach plays as a bridge between the community and the hospital.

Thank you, Kelsey and Tonia, for going above and beyond to care for our community!
