During the winter months, your body faces a perfect storm: less sunlight, more indoor time, heavier foods, and a nervous system that’s been managing months of stress from the holidays and beyond.

Chronic stress keeps your body in a constant state of alert, which means it’s prioritizing survival over restoration. Over time, that can lead to:

💤 Feeling worn out even after rest

😮‍💨 Getting sick more easily or taking longer to recover

🌙 Disrupted sleep or unrefreshing rest

💫 Brain fog and low motivation

Your immune system and nervous system are in constant communication - when one is under strain, the other feels it too. Chiropractic care helps restore clear communication between the brain and body, improving your ability to adapt to stress and strengthening immune coordination.

When your nervous system is regulated, your body can finally do what it’s designed to do: recover, repair, and protect you.

This season, don’t just fight off fatigue - support the system that keeps you resilient! 💙

The next time your little one melts down over the wrong color cup or socks that suddenly “feel weird,” take a deep breath - it might not be behavior-related.

Tantrums are often your child’s nervous system communicating that it’s overwhelmed.

When too much sensory input, emotion, or stress builds up in their body, their system hits capacity - and they release it the only way they know how.

A dys-regulated nervous system can make it harder for a child to:

💭 Process emotions or transitions

👂 Filter noise and sensory input

💤 Rest and recover between big days

💓 Feel safe enough to calm down when upset

Chiropractic care supports a child’s ability to regulate by improving communication between their brain and body.

When their nervous system is clear, they can adapt more easily to stimulation, handle emotions with more ease, and recover faster after big feelings. When their nervous system is balanced, calm comes naturally, and their true personality shines through. 💙

✨ A little reintroduction… because a lot has changed this past year! ✨

Whether you’ve been with Happy Family Chiropractic since the very beginning or you’re brand new here — we thought it was the perfect time for a reintroduction!

Dr. Sam is the pediatric & prenatal chiropractor and owner of Happy Family Chiropractic. She graduated chiropractic school in 2021, and in September 2024 opened Happy Family Chiropractic with one big mission — to create a space where families feel supported, cared for, and confident in their health journey. She’s passionate about helping nervous systems function at their best, supporting little ones as they grow, and walking alongside parents through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. When she’s not in the office, you’ll usually find her working out, traveling with her husband, or hanging out with their dogs 🐶

Marissa is the friendly face at the front desk — answering calls, scheduling visits, handing out stickers and toys, and often holding babies so parents can relax during adjustments. She brings warmth and joy into the office every single day.

Marissa joined the team in January 2025 — basically right from the beginning — and just celebrated her one-year anniversary with Happy Family Chiropractic! The team couldn’t be more thankful for the heart she brings to the practice and the families they serve.

She has a huge heart for kids (which makes sense because she has a busy 3-year-old boy of her own!) and loves spending time with her family and catching the occasional movie at the theater 🎬

We’re so grateful for this growing community and can’t wait to continue serving your families 💙🌳

Anxiety and overstimulation can feel the same in the body (racing thoughts, tight chest, restless energy) but, they come from two different places!

When the nervous system is overwhelmed by sensory load (noise, screens, pace, pressure), the body reacts first…and the mind follows.

Chiropractic care helps support regulation, so your system can process stimulation instead of getting stuck in it.

Swipe through to learn how to tell the difference - and how to help your body find its way back to calm. 💙

If you’ve been waking up in the middle of the night, tossing and turning before bed, or opening your eyes hours before your alarm - your body might be trying to tell you something.

Sleep struggles aren’t always about your bedtime routine. They’re often a reflection of how your nervous system is functioning.

When your body is stuck in a low-grade stress response, it can’t fully shift into rest and repair mode. The brain stays alert, hormones like cortisol and adrenaline stay elevated, and your body misses the cue that it’s safe to wind down.

You may experience things like:

💭 Restless thoughts the moment your head hits the pillow

🔥 Feeling wired but tired at night

🌙 Waking up at 2 or 3 a.m. with your mind racing

😴 Falling asleep easily, but never waking up rested

Chiropractic care helps regulate the communication between your brain and body, allowing your system to switch out of survival mode and into a state of calm. As the nervous system balances, the body can finally do what it’s designed to - rest deeply, repair fully, and wake up restored. 💙

The Power of a Slow Morning ☀️

There’s something about a slow morning that feels different. The kind where the house is quiet, the light is soft, and you’re not rushing to the next thing. Those moments aren’t just peaceful - they’re powerful for your nervous system!

When you start your day from a place of calm instead of urgency, your body receives an entirely different message: you’re safe. That single cue shifts how your brain regulates hormones, processes stress, and manages energy all day long.

A slow morning doesn’t have to mean hours of stillness - it’s simply about being intentional.

🫶 Taking a few deep breaths before checking your phone

☕ Drinking your coffee without multitasking

🕯️ Sitting in the sunlight for a few quiet
minutes

🧘‍♀️ Stretching instead of scrolling

These small rituals create rhythm. They anchor your nervous system in safety and presence before the world asks for your attention.

So as you move into this new year, remember - the way you start your day sets the tone for how you move through it.

Give yourself permission to slow down first, so your body can keep up with everything that follows. 💙

It’s common for kids to seem totally fine during the holidays - excited, busy, overstimulated in a fun way - only to have the emotional wave hit after everything settles down.

You might notice:

🌀 Bigger emotions in January

😣 Sudden clinginess

💭 Trouble settling at school

💤 Restless sleep returning

😮‍💨 More frustration over small things

This isn’t your kiddo misbehaving. This is the emotional “aftershock” of a season filled with stimulation, change, late nights, travel, sugar, and unpredictable routines.

Kids often process stress AFTER the events are over - when their nervous system finally has enough space to feel everything that got stored.

Chiropractic care helps support this transition by improving the regulation centers of the nervous system. When the system feels safe and connected, kids can:

✨ Move through emotions with more ease

✨ Sleep deeper

✨ Transition better

✨ Feel calmer and more grounded

✨ Recover from overwhelm faster

If your little one seems extra tender, extra reactive, or extra tired lately, remember…their body is catching up. A regulated nervous system gives them the space to settle again. 💙

If your jaw feels tight, clicks when you chew, or you catch yourself clenching throughout the day - your body might be stuck in a protective state it hasn’t been able to come out of yet. 😬

The jaw is one of the most sensitive areas when it comes to how your nervous system manages stress. It’s directly connected to your brain through several cranial nerves, including the trigeminal and vagus nerves - the same pathways that influence how you breathe, swallow, and calm your body after stress. 🧠

When your nervous system is in constant “go” mode, those cranial nerves stay overstimulated. The muscles of your face, jaw, and neck stay partially “on,” like your body’s holding its breath - ready for whatever might come next. 🤺

That’s why jaw clenching isn’t just a habit. It’s a sign of a system that doesn’t feel fully safe to relax yet.

Chiropractic care supports parasympathetic activation - the part of your nervous system responsible for rest, repair, and restoration. When your brain and body can finally shift out of that heightened state, the muscles begin to release naturally, your breathing deepens, and your jaw (and the rest of you) can finally let go. ✨

Healing the tension you’re feeling is less about muscles, and more about teaching your body that it’s safe to relax again. 💙

Winter can feel like a nonstop cycle of sniffles, coughs, and “how are we sick AGAIN?” 🤧❄️ But, immune health for kids isn’t only about avoiding germs - it’s about how well their bodies recover, regulate, and adapt.

There’s a powerful connection between the nervous system and immune function that often gets overlooked, and when that system is supported, kids tend to bounce back faster and handle seasonal stress with more ease. 💙

💙 From moms, for moms 💙

One of our favorite parts of what we do is hearing how care is impacting families at home — not just in the office. Here’s what a few moms have shared recently:

✨ “Dr. Sam has been wonderful! My 7-year-old daughter was nervous at first, but Dr. Sam made her feel so comfortable. By just her second visit, she was like an old pro! Highly recommend Happy Family Chiropractic for the whole family!”

✨ “Dr. Sam is amazing. She takes her time explaining things in a way a typical person can understand and always makes sure you’re comfortable. The practice is so kid-friendly — I bring my toddler with me to appointments and there are toys and friendly staff who help play with him when needed.”

✨ “My son has only been getting adjusted for about two weeks, and I can already see a difference. He’s struggled with constipation in the past and is now going daily. I’m so happy with his progress and can’t wait to see more!”

If you’re a mom looking for care that’s gentle, patient, and truly family-centered — we see you, and we’re honored to support you. 💫

You finally slowed down, got some extra sleep, maybe even took a few days off - but somehow, you still feel tired. Not the kind of tired a nap fixes, but that deep, foggy exhaustion that lingers even after “rest.”

Rest and recovery aren’t always the same thing.

You can sleep, sit still, or even take a vacation - but if your nervous system is still in high alert, your body doesn’t actually get the message that it’s safe to repair. The stress response stays active, hormones remain imbalanced, and your body keeps burning through energy as if it’s still in overdrive.

That’s where chiropractic care comes in. ✨

Each adjustment helps your body shift gears - out of fight-or-flight and into the parasympathetic state, where true healing and restoration happen.

That’s the state where:

💫 Your breathing deepens

💫 Your muscles release tension

💫 Your digestion improves

💫 Your sleep becomes restorative again

Your body isn’t asking for more rest - it’s asking for deeper rest. The kind that only happens when your nervous system feels safe enough to let go.

So if you’re heading into the new year still running on empty, it’s not because you haven’t done enough - it’s because your body hasn’t had the chance to reset. Let’s help it get there! 💙

Back-to-Routine Blues 💭✨

Getting back into the swing of things after the holidays can feel…heavier than expected.

Early mornings. Packed schedules. The shift from cozy, unhurried days to full calendars and nonstop doing.

It’s not just you (or your kids), it’s your nervous system adjusting! During slower seasons, your body has a chance to downshift…cortisol levels drop, sleep often improves, and the brain relaxes its constant scanning for “what’s next.”

When life suddenly speeds up again, your nervous system has to re-learn how to handle that demand. And if it’s already been running near empty, that transition can feel like a crash.

You may notice:

😮‍💨 Extra fatigue or brain fog

💭 More tension or irritability

🧠 Kids who seem off-rhythm - harder mornings, bigger emotions, shorter fuses

This doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong, it means your system needs time (and support) to recalibrate.

Chiropractic care helps restore smoother communication between the brain and body, helping both adults and kids adapt with more ease. Each adjustment signals safety to the nervous system - grounding your energy, balancing hormones, and improving focus and rest.

So, if your family is feeling the “back-to-routine blues,” give everyone some grace, and give your nervous systems a little support as you find your rhythm again. 💙
