Proud to have represented Quantum Rehabilitation and Nursing at the annual Stony Brook Stroke Symposium hosted by Stony Brook Medicine.

As a CARF accredited brain injury and neurological rehabilitation program, we value opportunities to collaborate with leading healthcare professionals and stay at the forefront of stroke care, recovery, and innovation. We were also able to tour and visit the Mobile Stroke Unit and learn more about the importance of rapid stroke intervention and emergency response in improving outcomes for survivors.

The symposium highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, education, and a strong continuum of care from acute hospitalization through subacute rehabilitation and community reintegration.

Thank you to the Stony Brook Cerebrovascular and Comprehensive Stroke Center for hosting such an impactful and educational event dedicated to advancing stroke care and recovery.

This week during Stroke Awareness Month, I’m thinking beyond survival…

Because surviving a stroke is only the beginning.

In the clinical world, we often focus on the immediate, stabilization, imaging, intervention. And yes, those moments matter. They save lives.

But what happens after is where the real work begins.

Stroke recovery is not linear.
It’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and deeply personal.

I’ve seen individuals relearn how to walk, speak, and swallow.
But I’ve also seen them navigate frustration, identity loss, anxiety, and the quiet grief of who I used to be.

That part doesn’t always get talked about enough.

Across our neuro rehabilitation programs at Emerge Nursing and Rehabilitation, Quantum Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and North Westchester Restorative Therapy and Nursing Center, we see this every day.

Recovery is more than regaining function.
It is rebuilding confidence, reconnecting with purpose, and redefining independence.

This week, I challenge us, clinicians, leaders, caregivers, to widen the lens:

Are we educating families on what recovery really looks like?
Are we addressing emotional and behavioral changes, not just physical ones?
Are we creating environments that support dignity, patience, and long term growth?

Because stroke care isn’t just about saving a life.

It’s about helping someone rebuild one.

Let’s continue to raise awareness, but more importantly, let’s raise the standard of care.

May is Stroke Awareness Month

Every minute matters.

A stroke can change a life in seconds but awareness, early recognition, and specialized rehabilitation can change outcomes.

At our CARF-accredited neurological rehabilitation programs, Emerge Nursing & Rehabilitation, Quantum Rehabilitation & Nursing, and North Westchester Restorative Therapy, we are committed to supporting individuals through every stage of recovery.

From acute stabilization to subacute rehabilitation and reintegration into the community, our interdisciplinary teams focus on:
• Restoring function
• Promoting dignity
• Supporting emotional and cognitive recovery
• Partnering with families every step of the way

Know the signs. Act FAST:
🧠 Face drooping
💪 Arm weakness
🗣️ Speech difficulty

Honored to be part of something bigger than all of us.

At Quantum Rehabilitation and Nursing we recently hosted our Brain Injury Salute to Survivors Event, recognizing individuals whose resilience and determination remind us why we do this work every day.

Brain injury recovery is not linear. It takes clinical excellence, innovation, and most importantly human connection. Seeing survivors reclaim independence, rebuild identity, and re engage with life is what drives our mission forward.

As a CARF accredited program, we remain committed to delivering patient centered, evidence based neurological rehabilitation that truly changes lives.

Grateful to our team, our survivors, and the families who trust us during some of life’s most challenging moments.

This is why we lead. This is why we serve.
