Today we are remembering Joan Phillips, former director of the Glen Cove Animal Lover’s League (now Cove Animal Rescue).

When we first opened Green Forest Veterinary Hospital, Joan welcomed us with open arms. She was kind, generous, and deeply devoted to the animals and the people who loved them. To say she was an animal lover feels like an understatement. Rescuing and caring for animals wasn’t just something she did, it was who she was.

It’s impossible to imagine how many lives she touched and how many animals she saved over the years. Her compassion shaped this community in powerful ways.

If there is a special place in heaven for anyone, it is surely for someone like Joan.

She will be dearly missed by all of us at Green Forest and by the entire Glen Cove community.

February is Pet Dental Health Month! 🦷🐾

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in both dogs and cats. Because pets are very good at hiding oral pain, signs can be subtle and may include bad breath, red or inflamed gums, trouble chewing, or pawing at the mouth. Regular dental exams help us catch problems early and keep pets comfortable and healthy.

The crackle and boom of fireworks can be a nightmare for our sensitive pups. 💔 As the 4th of July approaches, we're here to help you ensure your dog has a calm and safe holiday!

If your canine companion gets anxious during fireworks, remember to pick up their Sileo or other anti-anxiety medications from Green Forest Veterinary Hospital in advance. We want to make sure you have everything you need to keep them comfortable this summer!

A quick heads-up on our holiday schedule:
Our office will be closed on Friday, July 4th, and Saturday, July 5th. We'll be back bright and early on Monday, July 7th, to serve you and your beloved pets.

Leo is missing!!! Leo went missing in Sea Cliff, near the fire department on Roslyn & Maple Ave on November 2nd. He is 12 years old, neutered, very friendly and talkative. He unfortunately has no collar on and takes medication, so his mom Sarah would really like to have him home as soon as possible!!
Sea Cliff neighbors, please be on the lookout for Leo!

This adorable cream puff named Prince needs a home! His elderly owner passed away with no one to take over his care, and he's been in the streets since April of 2024. He's at least 12, maybe older, and so sweet! He’s quiet and loving, and purrs as soon as you talk to him. He'll be a devoted pet companion to anyone who is lucky enough to have him.
He'd be great with an older person who wants to be adored by a calm, sweet cat, or anyone who will pour love and adoration on this gorgeous boy. He was an only cat, so it might be best for him to remain that, but it's possible he may take to another pet as long as they are calm and sweet.
Please let us know if you want to visit with him and we’ll connect you to the guardian angel who is fostering him.
It's a tragedy when pets lose homes due to moves or illness. Please keep this in mind when taking in a pet ❤
Older animals make wonderful pets. Their love and devotion is not used up. On the contrary. They are so grateful for a second chance!

We want to wish Gabby the best of luck in starting the next chapter of her life! Gabby has with us at Green Forest Vet for 5 years now and has positively impacted the lives of so many dogs, cats and humans during that time. We will miss Gabby very much, but can't wait to see what amazing things she will accomplish in her future.
