If you frequently reach for a piece of gum after a meal, you may be surprised to learn that you might actually be helping your teeth. Let’s chew on this: while sugary gum is a definite no-no, sugar-free gum can have some perks. It stimulates saliva production, which helps neutralize acids and wash away food particles. It can also help prevent cavities by removing food particles from the surfaces of your teeth. Look for gums with xylitol for added cavity-fighting power. 💪

It’s common advice to always brush your teeth right after eating. This is actually a myth! 🙅

It’s better to wait a bit after eating acidic foods (like citrus fruits or soda). After eating acidic foods, your tooth enamel temporarily softens, and brushing right away can wear away this weakened enamel. It’s best to rinse your mouth with water to help neutralize acids and freshen your breath. Wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.
