Trauma is in fact a biological event. It’s a response to an actual or perceived threat. It’s a response to overwhelm. It’s a response to fear. It’s a response to boundary violations.
When we understand that trauma is actually biological, then we can see how the physical manifestation of our sustained threat response in the body occurs, and we can untangle and heal that. Survival resources sea resides and are dictated in the nervous system.
You are not not your survival response. I repeat! You are not your survival response!
This can give us a little space to understand ourselves better, to drive a wedge in our thinking where we default to self blame or self sabotage. We can get stuck when we identify our traumas as ourselves. Or where we feel like a crazy person because we just did that thing again even though we know it wasn’t good for us. But, there is in fact a biological reason.
⚡️If you feel tired, lack of motivation, “lazy”, apathetic, depressed, or can’t wake up in the morning, it could be from a FREEZE response.
⚡️If you always have 1000 projects going on, are overscheduling yourself and keeping busy, or constantly talking, it could be from FLIGHT response.
⚡️If you notice you are on edge, feel agitated, that you are snapping at others when you don’t want to, you’re annoyed easily and irritable, that your jaw is tight, and you have high blood pressure, it could be a FIGHT response.
Let’s learn what your trauma response means from the inside out, asking our bodies, “what is trying to be released and restored” so we can really heal it. There is a place and time for these responses. They are actually healthy and keep us alive. But we can also learn to rest, to heal, and to have love for ourselves without a cycling through in unconscious reaction.
