The theme of the weekend: the body has a story to tell.

Had an amazing time assisting the Beg. 1 Nashville training. Lots of professionals learning about how to heal trauma in a body centered way. And lots of beautiful healing themselves. Feel so excited to assist with this group of humans for the next few years as they learn and grow.

If you need help supporting your nervous system and want to heal from trauma with this powerful method, schedule a session on my website. I also do SE table work for people who want more support through attuned and sensitive touch to help release survival energy and held emotion.

Trauma and Tension Releasing Workshop
Saturday, September 17 @ Black Mountain Yoga
1:00p to 2:30p
with Kelly Zarcone
$40 per person

Our Trauma and Tension Releasing Workshop will teach you to safely use TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) as a lifelong tool for personal healing and reducing stress.

TRE is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of the shaking, or vibrating, that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. This is a powerful self-care technique that encourages the body to return back to a state of balance.

Hosted by Kelly Zarcone, Somatic Trauma Therapist and Massage Therapist at Be Well Black Mountain.

Hey hey 👋🏽 I’m teaching Trauma and Tension Releasing Exercises (TRE) again this Saturday the 25th from 1-2:30pm ✨🧘‍♀️✨

What is TRE?

TRE is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

TRE is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension, and trauma are both psychological and physical. TRE’s reflexive muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant, soothing, and deeply relaxing. After doing TRE, many people report feelings of peace and well-being.

Leave knowing how to use TRE in your everyday life!

TRE Workshop is $40 per person. No experience necessary.

Death and Grief

Death wakes us up to love. No one can escape it. Its one of the truths we have to face for ourselves, as well as every living being we know. Our pets can often be our greatest teachers about death and about love. My partners family had to put down their beloved dog this week. I loved and had my own relationship with her as well. The animals in my life have been a powerful mirror into how grief touches us and how deep love can flow.

Grief is complex and layered. Every time I touch grief the waves seem so big. It can feel like an ocean. It is such a visceral felt experience. Love requires us to embody it, to have it move through us. Grieving is a way to honor and move into our love for those who are no longer with us in the same way.

Ive seen the same thing with friends, family, and with my own clients around grief. Every time it is similar: the individual is overwhelmed by how much they love. They have access to that love more than ever.

So find a person or being in your mind who you lost, or who is physically distant right now. And feel that feeling. Where does it live in your body? Feel the sensations and emotions that wells up and get stuck. Thats our love. Its present. It’s here. Notice what happens to that feeling if it’s not stuck. If we breathe into it and direct it toward the person or being in our minds? Feel what happens in the body.

Send them all the love you can possibly muster. What happens when the grief doesn’t get stuck? What if we rode the waves of grief without focusing on the whole ocean? Love will always keep us afloat. We are in fact the whole ocean.

I taught a TRE (trauma and tension releasing exercises) workshop two weekends ago. Lots of lovely people showed up to learn about their nervous system and how to release tension and stress from their bodies using the TRE method.

There will be more workshops in the future! But if this is something you want to learn for yourself and get extra support around, having personal TRE sessions can really help deepen your practice and normalize the experience in your system.

03/09/2022

One of the best studies done about the affects of stress and its correlation to diseases (DIS-EASE) was the ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) study. The ACE Study findings suggest that adverse childhood experiences are major risk factors for the leading causes of illness, disability and death as well as poor quality of life in the United States.

ACEs are incredibly common — two-thirds of study participants had experienced at least one ACE category and one in eight individuals had experienced four or more ACEs. The higher your ACE score, the higher the likelihood of developing long-term health problems like heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes.

The Study is an ongoing collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Kaiser Permanente. Begun in 1994, the Study includes over 17,000 adults enrolled in the Kaiser HMO in San Diego, CA. 2/3 of the study participants reported at least one adverse childhood experience such as abuse, neglect, or family separation (divorce) with most reporting more than one. By bringing awareness of the origins of the many health and social problems that develop over a lifespan, this study shows that prevention of ACEs, such as abuse and neglect, can have enormous impact on the health of our society. This should be a big duhhhh! But apparently we needed to crunch data on thousands of participants to come to a conclusion that should just be obvious.

ACEs are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance misuse in adulthood. ACEs can be prevented, and just because you have had an ACE doesn’t mean you will develop one of the potential risks or diseases associated with high stress. Preventing ACEs can help children and adults thrive and potentially lower risk for conditions like depression, asthma, cancer, and diabetes in adulthood.

It’s never too late to work on changing your physiology! You are not what happened to you.

Want to help more people find me? Leave a review on Yelp and Google! It seriously helps.

I still find it weird and unfamiliar to promote myself. But if you have worked with me in the past, and appreciate our work together, you can write me a review on Google and/or Yelp. It really does help with their algorithm.

My main hope is that the more people that can find me, the more people I can help!

Go to either Google or Yelp and type Wild Rose Bodywork, Black Mountain, NC. My pages should pop up.

Thank you to those of you who have promoted me though Facebook to those you know and on exchange. And the word of mouth has been great as well. I SOOOO appreciate it!

I’ve loved getting to know so many of you recently. 💗 Big hug!

03/01/2022

Our trauma response is actually a friend to the body. It keeps us alive. It helps us wake up in the morning. It helps us make decisions and take actions. This survival energy is often called a “charge”. Think of a charge like a battery. There is more energy in the system. It propels us into biological survival and then it turns off. Trauma occurs when that response stays on. My work teaches you how to feel into the parts that have stayed turned on so that you can help them release. To move into a state that is at ease. A state that isn’t bound to the past, but can use the past as a resource to propel us forward.

It’s still common to use talk therapy to try and renegotiate trauma and whats happened to us. To try and rework the pain in our mind. Talking and being with a professional is always helpful, but at a certain point you may find yourself hitting a wall. You really “get it”. You’ve worked it over in your mind. Talking may have even made you more anxious, more resigned. We can get all the nuances of how things happened and how the person(s) or situation came to be which ended up harming us. We say we have compassion for our parents, for our perpetrators, for whats happened, yet we may still suffer from the anxiety, the triggers, the mysterious ailements or pain that creeps up in our bodies. We still don’t feel at peace. We even go so far to think of trauma as a mental illness, which it can lead to that for sure, but underlying the behaviors, the thoughts, is a survival mechanism at play.

When the body is brought in to be part of the telling of the story, to repair our actual neuro-biology, then we can really truly start to let go and have compassion for ourselves or others because there is no longer a charge in our nervous system. There is no longer a fixation on an outward looming threat, or no longer a fixation in overwhelming internal feelings. We gently and slowly lean in and allow that thwarted survival energy to compete itself.

I do both in person and online sessions for both Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resolution as well TRE. Link in bio

Trauma is in fact a biological event. It’s a response to an actual or perceived threat. It’s a response to overwhelm. It’s a response to fear.⁣ It’s a response to boundary violations.

When we understand that trauma is actually biological, then we can see how the physical manifestation of our sustained threat response in the body occurs, and we can untangle and heal that. Survival resources sea resides and are dictated in the nervous system.

You are not not your survival response. I repeat! You are not your survival response!

This can give us a little space to understand ourselves better, to drive a wedge in our thinking where we default to self blame or self sabotage. We can get stuck when we identify our traumas as ourselves. ⁣Or where we feel like a crazy person because we just did that thing again even though we know it wasn’t good for us. But, there is in fact a biological reason.

⚡️If you feel tired, lack of motivation, “lazy”, apathetic, depressed, or can’t wake up in the morning, it could be from a FREEZE response.⁣
⚡️If you always have 1000 projects going on, are overscheduling yourself and keeping busy, or constantly talking, it could be from FLIGHT response.
⚡️If you notice you are on edge, feel agitated, that you are snapping at others when you don’t want to, you’re annoyed easily and irritable, that your jaw is tight, and you have high blood pressure, it could be a FIGHT response.⁣

Let’s learn what your trauma response means from the inside out, asking our bodies, “what is trying to be released and restored” so we can really heal it.⁣ There is a place and time for these responses. They are actually healthy and keep us alive. But we can also learn to rest, to heal, and to have love for ourselves without a cycling through in unconscious reaction.

Let’s dig in. Link in bio for Somatic Experiencing and bodywork sessions. Online sessions are also available for somatic trauma work.

02/23/2022

When we are feeling anxious, angry, or stuck, these exercises can help open up a new possibility to move through and shift uncomfortable feelings. Start to pay attention to the sensations in your body, what are you actually feeling via sensations? Sensations are things like hot, cold, sensitive, tingly, tight, soft, spacious, rough, etc. Acknowledge your sensations and feelings and try exploring some of these movements to not get stuck. This can allow the feeling, the pain, emotion, or discomfort to subside and release. These are super simple and can be brought in when you are standing in line at a grocery store, listening to a friend, or at your desk at work.

There are a ton of different somatic methods for shifting states. The most difficult thing is recognizing where we are at prior to something triggering us. Our bodies are often sending us cues about how we are really feeling prior to anxiety arising and becoming unmanageable, before we experience exhaustion or burnout, or even outright physical pain.

Sometimes we need some skills and methods to work with various nervous system states to really shifts things and heal from trauma. To have some release it can be helpful to work with a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.

Some benefits:
🌻You can understand your animal body and communicate with it
🌻You can start to recognize patterns and have tools to shift things
🌻Significantly reduce anxiety and depression
🌻Sleep better
🌻Things won’t be as overwhelming, you can tolerate conflicts easier and show up  for others without getting burnt out.
🌻Feel overall less heavy and better able to be with emotions
🌻Understanding what your intuition is vs what your trauma is
🌻A feeling of actually having resolution from the past and letting s**t go
🌻Can hear your bodies voice and heal from mysterious or long term physical ailments

Sign up for a Free Discovery Call and we can go over any Q’s you may have. Link in bio.
