Ever notice how your mind loves to replay conversations, worry about the future, or narrate your entire life while you’re just trying to breathe?

That’s the default mode network doing its thing. It’s basically the brain’s “storyteller.”

Meditation and Kundalini both help quiet that inner narrator, just in different ways.

Meditation gently teaches us to notice thoughts without getting pulled into them. Over time, the mind softens, there’s more space, and we feel a little more grounded in the present moment.

Kundalini often goes straight through the body. Breath, movement, and sound interrupt the mental loops more quickly, helping us drop out of thinking and into sensing. Less story. More presence.

Neither is better. Both are powerful.
Both invite us out of our heads and back into ourselves.

And if you’ve ever felt emotional, calm, released, or deeply connected after a practice, that’s not random. That’s your nervous system finding a new rhythm.

Your mind doesn’t need to be fixed.
It just needs moments of rest.

My dream this year
is to create a life where I can sit at a coffee shop and meditate and stretch each day
with leisure and luxurious vibes
feeling safe and welcome

My wish is that every human on this earth
could discover a similar feeling

That my fire continues to burn for love
That my light continues to grow within
so that others feel safe enough to grow their light too

My hope is that I can consciously live from my heart every day
to flow with love

Thankful for the opportunity to be on this earth
to experience it all

How are you stepping into the new year?

Not with pressure.
Not with a list of everything that needs fixing.

But with curiosity.
With softness.
With a willingness to listen a little more deeply to what’s already here.

This year, I’m inviting a slower pace. More honesty with myself. More moments of pause before action. More space for the parts of us that are tired, hopeful, tender, and ready to be seen.

You don’t need to reinvent yourself to begin again.
You just need to arrive as you are.

How are you stepping into this year?

With care,
Laura 🤍

Solstice Reminder from Laura Listens

As we arrive at the still point of the year, I’m feeling this invitation deeply:

Slow down.
Rest.
Simplify.
Reconnect.

These winter months aren’t about pushing or forcing answers. They’re about creating space… the kind of inner space where clarity can gently rise on its own.

If you’re feeling tired, tender, or unsure of your next step, you’re not behind. You’re right on time. This is the season to listen inward, tend to your nervous system, and let yourself be held by quiet.

When spring comes, momentum will return. For now, your only job is to soften. 🌙

At Laura Listens, we honor this rhythm of rest and renewal through compassionate therapy, mindful movement, and heart-centered support. You don’t have to carry it all alone.

What are you being invited to release this season?

-Laura

Today I’m feeling especially grateful. This year has been full of growth, unexpected blessings, and the kind of community that reminds me we’re not meant to do this life alone.

I’m thankful for the people who show up with open hearts.
For the families we create, not just the ones we’re born into.
For the moments of chaos mixed with laughter, the little hands tugging at us, and the quiet moments of peace we carve out for ourselves.

I’m grateful for the women who gather, support each other, and hold each other through the hard and beautiful things.
For the clients who trust me with their stories and let me be part of their healing.
For every teacher, friend, and soul who has walked beside me this year. You’ve shaped me more than you know.

And I’m grateful for the reminders that even in the messy, imperfect moments we’re growing. We’re learning. We’re becoming.

Wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with connection, warmth, and a deep sense of being supported by the people around you and by the life you’re building.

Happy Thanksgiving 🤍🦃

College can feel like a lot, even when everything looks “fine” on the outside.

If you’ve been juggling classes, relationships, family expectations, or trying to figure out who you are right now, you don’t have to sort through it alone.

Carrie, our therapist who specializes in supporting teens and college-age young adults, offers a grounded, welcoming space to talk through things like:
• Anxiety or feeling overwhelmed
• Academic or life transitions
• Identity and sexuality exploration
• Body image concerns or eating struggles
• Stress from family, friendships, or relationships

Her approach is calm, compassionate, and easy to connect with. She helps you make sense of what you’re feeling, understand your patterns, and feel more steady in your day-to-day life.

Carrie sees clients in person in Naperville or virtually — whatever helps you feel the most comfortable.

We accept:
• BCBS PPO
• Aetna PPO
• United Healthcare PPO
• Waitlist for BCBS Community

If you’re ready for support (or even just curious), reach out to schedule a consultation.
You deserve someone in your corner.

Thankful!

Research shows that practicing gratitude can help reduce anxiety by shifting how the brain responds to stress. Gratitude supports emotional regulation, softens anxious thought patterns, and increases your ability to stay present. It can even lower cortisol and boost feel good neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin.

When you practice gratitude consistently, you begin to see life through a more hopeful lens. The nervous system settles. The mind feels lighter. Over time, the brain learns to look for what is supportive and steady instead of what is threatening.

A simple gratitude practice can be one of the most grounding tools you use.

What are you thankful for today?
