Dr. Alan Chow is a pediatric and general ophthalmologist that specializes in eye misalignments. Come see him at 386 Pennsylvania Ave. Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.

Dr. Chow is a general ophthalmologist and also a specialist in eye misalignments (strabismus) for both children and adults. He has treated and restored vision to many children with laziness of vision in 26 years of practice and has corrected thousands of eye deviations with medical therapy and/or surgery during this period. Dr. Chow also specializes in the research of treatments for degenerative retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and has spearheaded multi-university research in this area. He is the inventor of the Artificial Silicon Retina, and the founder of Optobionics, that has returned a level of vision to blinded patients.

This patient had surgery as a child for esotropia (inward turning), but years later developed significant exotropia due to a stretched scar/lost muscle — along with noticeable bulging of the left eye.

During surgery, we were able to locate the affected muscle and advance it back to its proper position. This patient Is very happy with his results.

He originally came to see us after we operated on his son. A great reminder that both children and adults can benefit from strabismus surgery. It’s never too late to improve alignment, function, and confidence.

This patient had a left eye that could not move outward since birth. She had to turn her face to the left if she wanted to use her two eyes together and she suffered from chronic neck pain. If she tried to straighten her head, her eyes crossed. After years of getting disappointing news from multiple eye surgeons she found us through an internet search and we were fortunately able to surgically correct the problem. She is very happy with the results!

This patient was born with left esotropia and came to us seeking correction. We performed surgery on her left eye and fortunately achieved alignment within half a degree—with a nearly invisible scar.

She is very happy with the outcome. Strabismus surgery not only restores proper eye alignment and improves visual function, but many patients also experience a boost in confidence and quality of life.

This patient had strabismus surgery as a child at a university medical center, which unfortunately resulted in a lost muscle and outward turning (exotropia) of her left eye. Over the years, several surgeons told her they could not be certain of restoring alignment.

When she came to us, we were fortunately able to locate the lost muscle and successfully re-align her eyes. Four months after surgery, she is happy with the results!

This patient presented with exotropia (outward turning of the eye) and hypotropia (downward turning), making her a complex case. Now, 9 months post-surgery, she is very pleased with her results and pleasantly surprised that she could not see the scar.

This patient had longstanding intermittent exotropia (out turning of the eyes) since childhood. As she grew older, her eye alignment control worsened and her eyes eventually turned out all the time and she lost most of her depth perception. She discovered us on a Google search and we were able to correct her eye misalignment. This is her, before and 4 months after strabismus surgery. She and her father are very happy.

Correcting eye misalignment early will allow the brain to develop use of the eyes together and depth perception.

Before strabismus surgery and 4 years after surgery for exotropia(outward turning of the eyes). This patient is very happy with his alignment and states that what he notices the most is that when he talks to clients they look straight at him. He doesn’t have to explain his eye condition so they know he is paying attention. Strabismus surgery has many benefits at all ages.
