I guess I am never NOT thinking about tarot, even in my special ed certification class last night. The teacher was talking about the hidden cost of separation, segregation, how we used to banish people for struggling, for having an ability that is not typical, for being outside what we have determined to be normal or acceptable. Not only does this harm those 10% who are separated, but also the ones who remain in the circle that is deemed “healthy.” The 90% fail to develop a full picture of the human experience, lose their chance to learn empathy, and miss opportunities to create more justice in the world based on real need.

This made me think of three of cups which I have been pulling a lot. It can simplistically be described as a card of joy, celebration, fun, pleasure. Christopher Marmolejo writes beautifully of this card in the book Red Tarot and takes it far beyond a party card.

“We cannot enter a future of greater possibility, a future born of radical imagination, without crossing the threshold of the three of cups” partly because the card calls us to deeper community, to expand our circles, to refuse to shame the other within us or beyond us. Access, belonging, agency…. gifts which we all can access and share.

💪 love to see it. Also wish we saw this kind of fire from the church (pre Pope Leo) ten years ago. Maybe if some church leaders stood up to him when he was bragging about assaulting women, he wouldn't have had the catholic vote? But God protect Pope Leo always 🙏

Time for a spring tarot class. If you have been curious about the cards, are craving a way to ground in these wild times, want to learn how to see things in your life in a new way…this could be a good fit for you. We will touch on the history of the cards just a bit, talk about the minors and majors, and discuss how to develop a tarot practice. Time permitting, we can talk about birth cards.
