Stop scrolling and SAVE this sleep checklist now!

✅Cool it down: Hot flashes stealing your zzz’s? Ditch the flannel sheets, embrace breathable fabrics, and try a cooling mattress pad.

✅Routine, routine, routine!: Set a consistent sleep schedule and stick to it, even on weekends. Your body thrives on predictability, so make bedtime a nightly ritual, complete with calming activities like reading or meditation.

✅Stress busters before bed: Anxiety keeps many of us awake. Try gentle yoga stretches, deep breathing exercises or journaling your worries, then send that stress packing!

✅Electronics are sleep spoilers: Put down the phone! Or better yet, remove it from your room. Screens emit blue light that disrupts your sleep cycle. Give your brain a tech break at least an hour before bedtime (preferably 2). Instead, try reading a book or listening to calming music.

✅Bedroom oasis: Make your bedroom cozy and sleep-inducing. Dim the lights, invest in blackout curtains and get rid of the clutter! Your bedroom should be a sanctuary for sweet dreams, not nightmares about dust bunnies and overflowing laundry baskets.

✅Move your body: Regular exercise improves sleep, but avoid intense workouts close to bedtime. A gentle walk or some light stretches in the evening can work wonders. Remember, treat your body with kindness.

Why does this happen? ⁠

Hot flashes and night sweats (the "vasomotor symptoms") occur when estrogen levels fluctuate, typically when estrogen levels are LOW. The hypothalamus - the command centre for hormones in our brain - is used to seeing a certain amount of estrogen, and when that estrogen doesn't show up it FREAKS OUT. 😡😭🙃🤬⁠

And because the hypothalamus also controls appetite, sleep cycles, mood, and body temperature, we see symptoms in these areas as the hypothalamus loses its cool. 🔥🔥🔥⁠

Luckily there are ways we can soothe our hypothalamus and reduce these, and other symptoms of perimenopause. ⁠

Hormone imbalance is a symptom, NOT the underlying cause.

The underlying cause is almost always hidden in our daily routine.

Things like….

❌ Morning coffee on an empty stomach.

❌ Intermittent fasting for TOO long.

❌ Toxic makeup and skin care products.

❌ A diet full of sugar and processed foods.

❌ Not exercising.

❌ Not reducing stress.

❌ Consuming a lot of dairy and alcohol.

👉 Getting adequate sleep to decrease excess cortisol levels
