In Glen Ridge, all police are First Responder and CPR certified, and are usually on the scene in one minute or less. The Glen Ridge Volunteer Am

bulance Squad is dispatched simultaneously and responds with a crew of three volunteers, at least two of whom are emergency medical technicians, in an average time of less than five minutes. Non-emergency medical transportation is available without charge, and by advance appointment, for any Glen Ridge resident who is non-ambulatory or requires special equipment or care. Transports may be scheduled for any day of the week between 7AM and 10PM by calling Ambulance Headquarters at 973-748-7721. Funding for the Glen Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Squad is provided by donations from Glen Ridge Residents.

This morning, our duty crew, Julie and Jack, participated in a Mass Casualty Drill at Mountainside Medical Center. The drill was coordinated by Jonathan Miller, head of Security at Mountainside. Drills like these help us enhance our skills, learn new techniques and foster relationships with hospitals like Mountainside should the need arise.

Every day, countless volunteers strengthen and enrich communities across the country through their selfless service. Since 1950, the Glen Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Squad (GRVAS) has, per month, made approximately one hundred ambulance calls and 10-15 senior transports. This selfless care is all voluntary and is always free. Striving to be kind, compassionate, professional and knowledgeable, GRVAS members are available twenty-four hours a day to help anyone in need.
As the field of EMS changes, we remain committed to making sure our members are trained in the most up to date methods which include BLS medical interventions and protocols, airway management, lifting and moving techniques and the numerous other valuable skills needed to help protect you and our community.
Many of our student members have continued into the health care field, some remaining on the squad well past college. Others are simply proud of the work they have done; the calm professionalism these students show during calls tells us what today’s youth is really all about. So here is to our seniors who will continue to make a difference in the world.
