What a Year at GRMC
2025 was an incredible year for Glen Rose Medical Center, full of growth, change, and community collaboration.
We began the year with mixed emotions as Dr. Erck announced his retirement. His contributions to our team and community were immeasurable, and we had the privilege of celebrating his career with friends, family, and staff. Shortly after, Dr. Davis, after 50 years in medicine, also announced his retirement. His legacy was honored in a heartfelt celebration, and we wish both doctors a happy and restful retirement.
In January, we proudly opened the new Wellness Center/Outpatient Therapy Center, made possible through the generous support of the Dr. Roger E. Marks Healthcare Foundation. The renovation included a significant upgrade to equipment and a new community education room.
Behind the scenes, we focused on improvements that enhance patient care. The engineering team worked tirelessly to upgrade the hospital’s lighting to energy-efficient LED bulbs, and a major overhaul of the HVAC system kept patients’ comfort in mind while enhancing efficiency. This project spanned several months and required careful planning to minimize disruptions to patient care.
One of our biggest projects this year was the integration of a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This transition, more than a year in the making, was a huge success thanks to the hard work of our department heads and staff. The new system ensures continuity of care and positions us for a stronger future.
Our grant writer, Mandi Short Vega, helped secure two vital grants that allowed us to upgrade essential systems, including the nurse call light system in our inpatient units and a new analyzer for the lab.
Additionally, we expanded our physician team by welcoming Dr. John Conrad (General Surgery), Aimee Flournoy (Family Medicine), Dr. Joe Bocanegra (Family Medicine at Pecan Clinic), and Dr. Nabil Aboukhair (Gynecology and Infertility). Dr. Edward Zabawski (Dermatologist) also joined our Specialty Clinic.
GRMC was honored to receive the Silver Award from the American Heart Association, thanks to the dedication of our ER team led by Ashley Rabel. This award reflects the outstanding care provided by our ER doctors and nurses.
Collaboration continued with several local agencies, including the Somervell County Sheriff's Department, Fire Department, Texas DPS, Carflite, and Glen Rose High School for the Shattered Dreams program. This training exercise was an invaluable opportunity to test our staff’s response to high-intensity, multi-victim incidents.
In response to the July floods, GRMC worked with agencies in Kerrville, TX, to collect and deliver basic necessities to victims. Our staff and community came together to donate a trailer full of supplies.
Our Annual Turkey Drive was another highlight, raising over $8,000 to support Papa’s Pantry and help families in need during the holiday season.
In December, we teamed up with the Somervell County Fire Department/EMS to keep our community warm by collecting blankets and space heaters for those in need.
Sadly, we lost our beloved Richard Rehabasaurus outside the Wellness Center/Outpatient Therapy Building over the Thanksgiving weekend. We’re hopeful he will be returned soon.
As we look ahead to 2026, we’re filled with gratitude for all the support we’ve received from our staff and community. We wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year!
