Today we had the opportunity to visit America's Black Holocaust Museum, and it was an experience that deeply impacted everyone in our group.

Our residents immersed themselves in the powerful history and stories presented throughout the museum. As they moved through the exhibits, many were visibly touched by what they read and saw. Some paused to reflect quietly, others asked thoughtful questions, and many engaged in meaningful discussions about the powerful narratives and images before them.

The experience was not only educational but profoundly moving. The stories shared within the museum left a lasting impression—one that will remain in their hearts and minds. It was a day of learning, reflection, and deeper understanding of history and its enduring impact.

What a cool ride our residents went on! They explored the powerful Murals of Glover, honoring the story of Joshua Glover — a courageous man who escaped slavery and later became the center of a historic rescue that fueled the Underground Railroad movement in Wisconsin.

They also visited and celebrated our beloved Hank Aaron (Henry Louis Aaron), who began his professional baseball career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1954 and went on to become one of the greatest baseball players in history. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, his legacy continues to inspire generations.

Our residents had the opportunity to listen, learn, and experience powerful moments of history firsthand in celebration of Black History Month. It was truly a meaningful and memorable journey!

On Thursday, we went out to lunch at Benji's Deli in Fox Point. If you haven’t been there yet, you definitely need to try it! The food was filling and tasty, and everyone left happy.

Our residents were especially excited to go. Many of them had been there before, but it had been a long time since their last visit. It was wonderful to see their smiles as they enjoyed a delicious meal together and reminisced about past visits.

During Black History Month, our residents created a vibrant collage inspired by Reginald Laurent, a renowned self-taught abstract artist known for his bold colors, black canvases, organic and geometric shapes, and signature flowing white line.

Their colorful creations celebrate creativity, culture, and the power of artistic expression

At Culinary Club, Javi proudly took charge — after all, he was the one rocking the chef’s hat! This February, we decided chocolate-covered strawberries were a must (because… why not?!). The room was filled with excitement, melted chocolate, and plenty of sweet smiles. They were a total hit!

It was sunny and above 20 degrees in Wisconsin — so why not get outside and make a trip to Dunkin'! ☀️🍩

Our residents and staff enjoyed picking out their favorite sweets and warm drinks while taking a scenic drive around town. As we cruised through familiar streets, they shared memories and stories, noticing how much the towns they once knew have transformed over the years.

It was a simple outing filled with laughter, nostalgia, and sweet treats — the perfect way to enjoy a beautiful Wisconsin winter day!

Today was filled with so much love in our community as we celebrated Valentine’s Day together. Families stopped by with treats and flowers for their loved ones, and we even celebrated some birthdays throughout the day — it truly felt like love was everywhere.

We were especially touched by Sydney, an MQ student, who stopped in to drop off flowers for our residents. Although she has never been here before, she understands what this place means. Her grandmother, who had dementia, has passed away, and she wanted to honor her by spreading love to others. She knows about us through her friends and felt called to give back in this beautiful way. What a heartfelt gesture.

As you can see in the photos, we also received some wonderful Valentine’s cards — thoughtful, detailed, and clearly made with care. A local couple took the time to create and deliver cards for every resident. That kind of kindness is truly special.

We are so blessed to be part of such a compassionate and loving community. Days like today remind us how much goodness surrounds us.

Our Flower Club was on it — carefully cutting each stem to the perfect length, thoughtfully arranging the colors so they complemented one another, and creating stunning presentations for our tables. The final arrangements looked absolutely fabulous and brought so much warmth and joy for everyone in our community to enjoy.

Such a lovely way to add beauty and brighten the day

Former Governor Marty Schreiber recently shared his caregiving journey with Silverado family members and our greater community. His heartfelt presentation walked the audience through his personal experience as a caregiver for his late wife, Elaine, offering an honest and emotional look into the realities of loving someone with dementia.

Through his story, families found comfort, understanding, and reassurance that they are not alone in their journey. His book, My Two Elaines, provides wisdom, practical insight, and hope for those navigating the challenges of caring for a loved one diagnosed with dementia.

Marty served as Wisconsin’s youngest state senator at the age of 23, later becoming the state’s 38th Lieutenant Governor and 39th Governor. A Milwaukee native, he is now a leading advocate for Alzheimer’s and dementia-related issues, using his voice and experience to support families across the country.

We are truly grateful he took the time to share his story with our Silverado community.
