There seems to be confusion if you need to renew your medical certificate for your CDL. So far the DMV has placed a hold on downgrading license until 6/30/2020. However, you need to be able to show a relatively current certificate AND(unless something changes) once June 30 comes you need to immediately renew and submit your valid renewal certificate. We are open and continue to do CDL medical certifications. Good luck trying to get into an office and then turn around and get into an DMV. **This change does NOT apply to folks who are new and have not had any medical certifications before. Hope this helps!

update on Drug testing beginning January 2018:

DOT Updates Drug Testing Panel to Include Opioids, Effective 1 Jan. 2018.

Nov 10, 2017 Katherine Miller

The Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) made a final ruling yesterday on the proposed rules to include opioids in their drug testing program. Originally proposed in January of 2017, the ruling is now final and will go into effect on January 1, 2018.

The DOT drug testing program will now include testing for hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, and oxycodone. In addition, methylenedioxyamphetamine has been added as an intial test analyte, and methylenedioxyethylamphetamine has been removed as a confirmatory test analyte. The addition of hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, and oxycodone to the drug panel is in response to the current opioid crisis. These four semi-synthetic opioids have been added to provide consistency as mandated by Federal statute, OTETA, and applies not only to specimen testing validity values but also to initial and confirmatory testing values.

These revisions now harmonize DOT testing regulations with the HHS Mandatory Guidelines that were revised earlier this year. The HHS guidelines apply to Federal drug-testing programs for urine testing, and were established by the US Department of Health and Human Services.

If you let your medical certification lapse your driver's license will revert to non commercial status. The
driving record is marked "Not valid for commercial operation"
until a valid medical is updated. Too risky, if you get pulled over while working the officer can take your keys, Not worth the risk.
* Renew with plenty of time! :)

Don't forget you need to take your forms and give them to the nice folks at the DMV so they can update your record. Had driver call who got stopped. Guess what he didn't go to the DMV the official took his keys and his company needed to send someone else to take the load. No good. I know everyone loves the DMV but save yourself the bigger headache DrNason
