But honestly, the simple humble blood test can tell us so much more than drs give them credit.

⬆️ most drs are just reading what the lab tells them is high or low so they can diagnoses disease 🥺

📋Here's a sample of the list of blood markers I ask my clients for to get a peak at their gut health

✔️Total White Blood Cells (CBC)
✔️Neutrophils

📉Depending on if the marker is functionally high or low, we can draw some clues as to whether or not you might be dealing with...

Want to get rid of your bloating?

Then you need to change what you do at meals. Here's how:

🍽 Sit down when you eat - yes, even if it's a snack. No eating on the go unless absolutely necessary occasionally.

🍽 Chew your food until it's mush - This is upwards of 20 chews for most food. And yes, you even need to chew your smoothies, just chomp your teeth a bit when it's in your mouth.

🍽 Take 3 deep breaths before you eat - your whole body needs you be breathing deeper so that it can get the idea that you're asking it to relax and digest.

🍽 Cook your vegetables - somewhere along the way, raw food became a thing that was held up above any other type of food preparation as healthy. Well, this is false. And not only that, but cooked vegetables are easier to digest. It takes some of the work out which is helpful when you're dealing with bloating.

I cannot reiterate this enough - if you want a food sensitivity test, WHY?! What do you think it's going to solve, what are you going to do with the results?

For the vast majority of people, food sensitivity tests are costly convincers that your gut health needs to be prioritized.

If you're sensitive to a bunch of foods, then it tells us your gut is leaky, your gut lining is compromised (as opposed to sealed and supple), your bacterial balance is off, and you're not producing enough digestive secretion and juices to properly break down and absorb food.

Oh, and an intolerance is different from a sensitivity from an allergy.

I walked into the yoga studio and saw that darn book again "Wherever You Go There You Are". A text about meditation and mindfulness recommended to most beginners.

For my very analytical, childhood traumatized brain even the title of this book was a turn off.

I was 20 years old and had just started to take regular yoga classes. I saw the benefits almost immediately, but credited the physical aspect of yoga as the thing that was making me feel better mentally and physically.

Over the next 15 years, I would read countless books on meditation and mindfulness. I would pay for five programs to teach me how to be a better meditator. I would take four trainings on how to teach mindfulness and meditation in the hopes that it would help me do better personally. I would take countless meditation classes. I would teach meditation to teenage girls, stressed out women, women in transition, women with chronic diseases, women with demanding jobs, women in challenging relationships, women with pain, women with gut issues...

And in all these years, I just now feel like I've got a meditation practice that I can actually stick to.

I don't even like these words "stick to".

I have a meditation practice that supports me.

I have a meditation practice that I enjoy.

I have a meditation practice that is habit.

I have a meditation practice that is not perfect.

And, that is the whole f*cking point.

I woke up disappointed on January 1, 2015.

I was bloated.

I was tired.

I was sad.

I had spent the previous 6 weeks making choices that led my body to feeling like 💩.

Prior to then, I was prioritizing healthy habits by eating nutrient dense foods, drinking water, moving my body, taking time for mindfulness.

Then 🌬 Halloween hit, and it was down hill from there.

From November 1 to December 31 of that year I let myself completely ignore what I needed to thrive.

💔Do you know how much harder it is to put your health low on your to do list for two months and then try to restart all those healthy habits?

It’s 💩 because you know how much better you can feel, and it feels so much harder to commit and see things through.

😍Since 2015, I’ve created a process for myself to enjoy the holiday season, prioritize my health, and wake up January 1 feeing amazing!
