We've all heard the term "fight or flight" and know that it is our body's response to danger. These are the two most commonly spoken about terms when discussing how our nervous system responds to a threat. But there are two others terms that are not as commonly used: "freeze" and "fawn". These two also occur as a response to perceived threat but are characterized as the opposite of fight/flight. When we are in "fight or flight" (HYPER-arousal) our bodies are mobilized for action, with our sympathetic nervous system becoming highly active. But when we are in HYPO-arousal (in "freeze" specifically), there is a significant decrease in nervous system activity. So if you feel tired/sleepy all the time (also known as chronic fatigue), numbness, foggy thinking or even feeling as though your body physically cannot move, you might be experiencing hypo-arousal. See the link attached for an in-depth dive on how our bodies react to stress to learn more!

For our veterans, the battle doesn't always end after service.
Every day, we lose those who've served to invisible wounds like PTSD, depression, and trauma. This month, we honor their strength by shining a light on mental health and encouraging open, judgment-free conversations.

This month is a time to honor the rich traditions, resilience, and contributions of the Hispanic/Latinx community.

As we celebrate, it's also important to recognize that many in our communities carry silent struggles like anxiety. Coping tools can help us nurture our mental health while honoring our heritage of strength and connection. πŸ’›

πŸ’‘ Try this coping tool: Take a mindful walk while listening to music that connects you to your roots. Movement + Culture = Healing. πŸŽΆπŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸ•ΊπŸ½

Every day, we're bombarded with endless information and headlines that can feel overwhelming. It's okay to feel exhausted by it all-you're not alone. 🌍

Remember to take breaks, unplug when needed, and find moments of peace amidst the chaos. Reach out, talk about it, and prioritize self-care (while also taking "committed action" as our ACT therapists would say). πŸ’–
