Game Changer Physical Therapy...then and now

All new businesses have a story behind them and Game Changer Physical Therapy is no different. Many ask, “why did you start your own clinic?” The answer to that question is: the people in the picture with me. They are the reason why I did this. My family is one of the most important things to me and prior to starting GCPT, work was cutting into time with my boys. For the first three years of my physical therapy career I was working along side one of the best baseball/softball physical therapists and successfully treated numerous patients ranging from youth to professional athletes. Around year 2, my family bought our first house and were expecting our second son. Our new home was closer to both sets of grandparents, but 30 minutes further away from the physical therapy clinic where I worked part time.

For another year I would commute 1 hour each way to and from work three days week, which took precious time away from my two young sons who are growing up too quickly. At this point, I decided that something had to change. I began looking for work closer to home so I could be the wife and mother that I want to be. I had many interviews that all left me feeling very discouraged because of time limitations that would be placed on my treatment time with each patient. At most clinics, physical therapists are only allowed to spend 15-20 minutes with each patient during their session in order to get as many patients in and out of the door due to decreasing reimbursement rates.

This is not what I signed up for when I decided to pursue a career in physical therapy. I became a physical therapist to help people not to be told how long (or how short) I can work one-on-one with a patient. Our current health care system is broken and the way I can change it is by breaking out of the insurance realm and starting a cash-based physical therapy practice where each patient will be treated the way they deserved to be treated.

At GCPT, each patient will receive one-on-one care with me, an individual who spent 3 years in PT school to earn the title and degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy. With individualized, one-on-one care, patients will get better faster, thus decreasing overall health care costs. That is what makes GCPT different. So one simple question has a very long answer, but to summarize: I did this to spend more time with my family by working fewer hours while maintaining the high quality physical therapy care that all patients deserve regardless of their insurance provider.
