FALSE!➡️ Breast MRI is a powerful supplemental tool, but it doesn’t replace mammography. Most patients still need an annual mammogram, MRI is used in addition for high-risk individuals or when more detail is needed.

Breast ultrasound plays an important role in breast imaging. 🌌
Here are 3 reasons why you might need an ultrasound instead of—or in addition to—a mammogram:

1. To take a closer look at something seen on a mammogram.
If a mammogram shows an area that needs more detail, an ultrasound can help determine whether it’s a solid mass, cyst, or normal tissue change.

2. For patients with dense breast tissue. Dense breasts can make it harder for mammograms to detect small abnormalities. Ultrasound can provide another layer of imaging, helping radiologists see through dense tissue more clearly.

3. When a lump is felt but not visible on a mammogram. If you or your doctor feel something that doesn’t show up clearly on a mammogram, ultrasound is often used to evaluate that area further.
