Meet Ashley Burns - she is our Patient Care Coordinator in the Goodyear office. We are SO lucky to have Ashley and her never-ending positive attitude on our team. Ashley is sincerely grateful for each day she comes to work, being surrounded by warm and peaceful individuals. It’s a similar story with hearing. After a thorough evaluation, some of our patients aren’t candidates for full hearing aids, but could still benefit from a bit of hearing support.

Let’s talk about Apple’s hearing features because they’re actually amazing! We get this question a lot from patients: “Can my iPhone or AirPods help with my hearing?”
Short answer? Yes, sometimes. While they’re not a replacement for hearing aids, they can be a great tool for those who need just a bit of assistance in certain situations.

Here are a few of my favorite Apple accessibility features for hearing:
🔊 Live Listen: This one turns your iPhone into a little microphone that streams sound directly to your AirPods or Made for iPhone hearing aids. It’s super helpful in noisy restaurants or meetings.

💬 Live Captions: Get real-time captions on phone calls, FaceTime, or even videos. Honestly, it’s a game-changer if you miss a word here or there.

🎶 Headphone Accommodations: You can adjust how your AirPods amplify sound, making things clearer and more balanced for your hearing needs.

Believe me, we’ve heard every story.

Whether it was your curious cat, your snuggly pup, or even a mischievous bird, it always seems to happen the one time you forget to put your hearing aids in their case, right? 😉

The good news? If your furry (or feathered) friend took a bite out of your hearing aid, all is not lost!

Here’s what we can do:
1️⃣ We’ll always try to fix it in-house first if we can.
2️⃣ If it needs a little extra TLC, we can send it to the manufacturer for repair (or even replacement), depending on the damage, warranty, and all that jazz.
3️⃣ If your device is older (think: a laptop from 5+ years ago), and it’s more cost-effective to upgrade, we’ll walk you through what’s new. No pressure, just options!
Our job: give you choices. Your job: choose what fits your life best.

“I hope I don’t have wax in my ears!”

I hear this all the time when I’m about to check someone’s ears, and I always reassure them: earwax isn’t bad! 👂✨

In fact, your ears are supposed to have wax. It’s your body’s natural way of keeping your ears clean and protected. Earwax has antifungal and antibacterial properties that help prevent infections. 🙌

The only time it becomes an issue? When there’s too much of it and it forms a plug (think: putting an earplug in your canal). That’s when it can start to affect your hearing.

If you’re someone who gets a buildup often, regular ear cleanings can make a big difference.

Meet Joanna Martiniez - she is the Patient Care Coordinator for our newest location in Surprise....A day in the "work life" of Joanna starts by greeting patients with a warm welcome, whether in person or over the phone. No better greeting than Joanna's scintillating smile from ear to ear! Joanna says that, "Even though we are a medical office, my team and I try our best to make every patient feel cozy and at home, treating them exactly as we would like to be treated. I have learned the importance of patient care and I try my best every day to ensure a smooth and compassionate experience from check-in to check-out. Ascent will always provide the best support to their patients and their families."

🕯️"Does ear candling really work?"

I love that people ask this, but I DO NOT recommend it. EVER.

Despite the hype, that brown goo left in the candle isn’t your earwax, it’s just melted candle residue. Plus, those hollow candles can drip hot wax into your ear canal and even burn your eardrum. 😱

👍Save yourself the risk. Let a licensed professional handle earwax removal safely.
