🎉 Surprise, AZ’s Jonathan Kaplan (right) just won a 2025 VW Taos S in Vitalant’s “Summer Drive to Save Lives” raffle! A 24-time blood donor, Jonathan’s lucky entry was drawn during a live event in Tempe, aired on CW7 Arizona. His reaction? Pure shock and joy as he turned the key and the engine roared to life! 🚗💙

The event was kicked off by leukemia survivor Sawyer Barth (left), who shared how blood donations gave him hope. Thank you to all donors who help save lives! 🩸❤️

When your purpose is saving lives, it doesn’t stop at a job change.

After 18 years with Vitalant, Rhonda’s passion for blood donation didn’t end when she moved into her role as Volunteer Services Manager at her local hospital. It grew even stronger.

Now, she coordinates quarterly blood drives for hospital employees and leads their annual “Rock ’N Roll Up Your Sleeve” event every June, complete with Elvis flair and lifesaving results. Between caring for patients and supporting staff, Rhonda makes sure everyone gets a chance to give.

“I’ve seen the need for blood on both a personal and professional level,” she says. “It’s the blood already on the shelves that saves lives.”

This Blood Drive Coordinator Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating Rhonda and all the coordinators who turn passion into purpose and make every donation possible.

Her husband needed hundreds of transfusions to survive. So she made it her mission to give back.

When LaVonne’s husband, Richard, was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, blood transfusions became his lifeline. Generous donors made it possible for him to keep fighting.

Grateful for those who gave, LaVonne started donating herself, and later began organizing blood drives at her church. Years later, she’s reached a milestone of 16 gallons donated.

This Blood Drive Coordinator Appreciation Week, we celebrate LaVonne and all coordinators who inspire their communities to give and save lives. Every donation carries their dedication and heart.

Stephanie has spent years volunteering with many organizations, but she says her favorite experience is with Vitalant. Why?

“I get to schedule my own hours, be with staff members who are dedicated to helping others, meet new people, and hand out treats. There is no stress whatsoever.”

Nearly 420 donations later, Rich is still racing. Only now, the finish line is saving lives.

What began as a competition with a college friend became personal when his wife needed blood during childbirth. That moment reshaped his perspective and sparked a deeper commitment.

Rich chose to start donating platelets after learning how critical they are for cancer patients, trauma victims, and others in urgent need. With a shelf life of up to 7 days, platelets depend on regular donors to keep them available when every second counts.

What if your blood donation gave a family more time to say “I love you”?

For Reno and Makayla, every transfusion gave their daughter Scarlett the strength to keep fighting leukemia and gave them more moments to hold her close.

Though her journey ended far too soon, Scarlett’s parents remain forever grateful to the selfless donors who gave their little girl precious time filled with laughter, play, and love.

“You could see the difference it made every time she got a transfusion,” Makayla shared.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, you can honor children like Scarlett by donating blood or platelets. Your generosity helps bring hope, strength, and time to young patients in the fight of their lives.
