“Covid Arm” describes a delayed hypersensitivity reaction that occurs in a small number of people receiving the Moderna vaccine. This reaction presents as a red, raised, itchy and or painful rash at the site of the injection. It has been reported to occur anywhere from 4-11 days after the first dose, and it usually occurs faster after the second dose. It can be treated symptomatically with ice, antihistamines, and topical steroids. Importantly, it is not a reason to avoid the vaccine or to not receive the second dose!

Happy National Women Physicians Day! Today we celebrate the 4th ever Women Physicians Day. February 3rd was chosen for this day to honor the birth of the first female physician in the US- Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell.
Did you know that men still outnumber women in medicine? However that statistic is reversed in the field of dermatology, as evidenced by our all female team here at Core Dermatology! Our physicians are proud to be women in medicine.

Retinoids are the holy grail of anti-aging skin care. If you ask us what you can do to prevent signs of aging our advice will always include retinoids (2nd only to sunscreen). The biggest issue people have with using these products is that they can be irritating, causing peeling and redness. To lessen these side effects you can try a technique called a “retinoid sandwich”- apply your moisturizer first, then your retinoid, and then your moisturizer again. Try it and let us know what you think!
