This is an example of a Venous Leg Ulcer. Venous Leg Ulcers can occur when the blood flow in your veins is compromised. Veins are the blood vessels that bring blood from your feet back to your heart. High blood pressure in your veins, venous hypertension, can cause changes in your skin, which can lead to wounds.

Our healthcare providers will develop a custom treatment plan based on each patients’ needs, and we will show our patients how to take care of their wound properly. If you have any questions, please reach out. We are always here to help! 💜 .gov

Why does your wound provider debride your wound?

The benefit of wound debridement is to help promote healing, reduce risk of infection, and stimulate wound healing.
By removing old slough, drainage, and debris from the wound we allow the wound bed to have a clean area to heal, and we reduce opportunity for bacteria to cause and infection.
In chronic wounds, debriding to the point of bleeding, restarts the wound healing cascade and stimulates growth factors in the wound to promote healing.

There are several styles of wound debridement. For more information speak to your wound care provider.
