October is Ultrasound Awareness Month! š©ŗ
Did you know that a lower extremity ultrasound can play a crucial role in wound healing?
This non-invasive imaging technique helps healthcare providers identify underlying issues that may be preventing wounds from healing properly.
A lower extremity ultrasound can detect: Blood clots (DVT) that restrict circulation, Venous insufficiency causing poor blood flow, Arterial blockages limiting oxygen delivery to tissues and Fluid collections or abscesses beneath the wound. When wounds on the legs or feet arenāt healing as expected, poor circulation is often the culprit. By identifying these vascular issues early, your healthcare team can create a targeted treatment plan to improve blood flow and promote faster, more effective healing.
If you have a chronic wound thatās been slow to heal, talk to your provider about whether a lower extremity ultrasound might be beneficial. Early detection and intervention can make all the difference in your recovery.
