Dear Friends and Allies of Maria Droste Counseling Center,

We are pleased to share an important update about the leadership of Maria Droste Counseling Center—one that reflects our continued commitment to stability, growth, and meaningful service in our community. Effective June 30, 2025, Cynthia Romero, our current Interim Chief Operations Officer, stepped into the role of Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

This transition is more than a change in title. It is a recognition of the incredible leadership, vision, and dedication Cynthia has demonstrated since joining our organization. Her clarity, compassion, and operational excellence have guided our teams through a period of organizational strengthening, and we are confident she will continue to lead us with purpose and steadiness in this next chapter.

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to Jeffery Bustamante, whose contributions during a critical restructuring phase have laid a strong foundation for long-term sustainability. His impact will be felt well beyond his tenure, and we wish him the very best.

Since 2023, our Board of Directors has been steadfast in pursuing a singular mission: to ensure the stabilization and sustainability of Maria Droste Counseling Center. We know that while we cannot always control external forces, we can choose to lead with intention, transparency, and collaboration—values that continue to guide us.

Cynthia will serve as Interim CEO through the end of 2025. If a permanent Executive Director is appointed before that time, she will return to her COO role and assist with the leadership transition, reinforcing our commitment to continuity and care.

As we mark this moment of evolution, we invite you—our valued partners—to join us in celebrating Cynthia’s leadership. Your ongoing support and belief in our mission empower us to continue offering compassionate, accessible mental health care to those who need it most.
