Corns vs calluses: Know the difference
Both are thickened skin, but they're not the same! Here's how to tell them apart and treat them properly.
CORNS:
• Small, round, concentrated areas
• Hard center with inflamed skin around it
• Usually on toes or bony areas
• Often painful when pressed
• Caused by friction from shoes
CALLUSES:
• Larger, flat, spread-out areas
• Yellowish, thick skin
• Usually on heels or ball of foot
• Less painful, more protective
• Caused by repeated pressure
WHEN TO SEE US:
• Pain or discomfort
• Signs of infection (redness, warmth)
• Diabetes or circulation problems
• Home treatments aren't working
SAFE HOME CARE:
• Soak feet in warm water
• Gently file with pumice stone
• Moisturize daily
• Wear properly fitting shoes
• Use protective padding
Never cut or shave them yourself - that can lead to infection!
