Emotional regulation is not something children are simply born knowing how to do. It is a skill that develops through relationships.

Before children can learn to calm their own bodies and make sense of big feelings, they first need co-regulation: the steady presence of a calm, connected adult who helps them feel safe enough to borrow that regulation.

Through repeated moments of being soothed, understood, and supported, children begin to build the internal skills needed to eventually regulate on their own.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer a child is not a solution, but our calm presence.

Anger is often understood as a secondary emotion, meaning it can emerge as a protective response to more vulnerable primary emotions beneath the surface. For many individuals, anger can feel more tolerable than experiencing sadness, shame, fear, or embarrassment. In the therapeutic process, exploring what exists underneath the anger can create space for deeper insight, emotional regulation, and healing!

We are honored to announce our partnership with Stable Steps: Therapeutic Equine and Animal-Assisted Services. In collaboration with mental health professionals from our agency and Blue Jay Meadows Farm, we are preparing to launch this powerful form of healing to the individuals and families we serve.

Through our nonprofit partner, Stable Steps, a 501(c)(3) organization, we are creating opportunities for people to experience the unique connection between humans and animals; one that can gently open doors to growth, trust, and emotional connection.

For someone struggling with anxiety, trauma, grief, or self-doubt, a moment spent working with an animal can spark something remarkable:

a sense of calm…
a moment of confidence…
a realization of their own strength.

Our programs are designed to support individuals as they explore self-awareness, build confidence, develop healthy boundaries, strengthen communication, and discover new coping strategies for life’s challenges.

We are currently building a waitlist of interested clients to assess program fit and availability. If you would like to be considered, please contact the front office at Turning Leaf at (518) 338-3117 to join the waitlist.

To learn more, visit: stablestepstherapy.org or join our page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61583313309497 to follow us for any upcoming announcements.

Sincerely,
The Turning Leaf and Stable Steps Teams

🌱 Differing Abilities Support Group: First Session! 🎨

We’re kicking things off with a Rock Garden activity! Participants will decorate rocks with positive messages or creative designs, turning something simple into a powerful expression of support, encouragement, and individuality.

This hands-on activity isn’t just fun, it’s meaningful. Creative expression can help reduce stress, boost mood, and provide a safe space to connect with others. Each rock becomes a reminder of resilience, positivity, and community 💛

Everyone’s perspective matters here. Let’s create, connect, and grow together.

Boundaries shape how we show up in every part of life. Setting healthy boundaries in each of these areas is essential for protecting your energy, maintaining self-respect, and building balanced, fulfilling relationships.

Take a moment to reflect:
• Which type of boundary challenges you most?
• Do you lean toward porous or rigid boundaries?
• When and where do you struggle to hold them?
• Are there people who tend to push past them?
• What’s one step you can take toward healthier boundaries?

Growth starts with awareness and the courage to honor your limits.

Transgender Day of Visibility is a time to celebrate the lives, resilience, and contributions of transgender people, while also raising awareness of the disproportionate levels of discrimination, violence, and systemic barriers the community continues to face.

Visibility matters! Not just today, but every day.

If you or someone you know needs support:
• The Trevor Project (24/7 support for LGBTQ+ youth)
• Trans Lifeline (peer support by trans people)
• 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988)

You can’t pour from an empty cup!

Filling your cup doesn’t have to be something big, it can be small, intentional moments throughout your day:

• Taking a breath before responding
• Stepping away to reset
• Saying no without guilt
• Making time for rest

Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. The more you fill your cup, the more capacity you have to show up for yourself and others.

Check in with yourself today. What does your cup need?

Spring reminds us that change is natural, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy.
If you’re coming into this season feeling heavy, tired, or unsure, you’re not behind. You’re human.

Let this be a gentle reset, not a pressure to “start over." Growth can look like resting more, setting boundaries, or simply making it through the day.

As the world softens and opens up again, you can too, at your own pace!

New season, same you… just with a little more care.

It’s easy to feel like happiness is something “out there”; Just one more goal, one more step, one more perfect moment away.

Like chasing the end of a rainbow.

But the truth is… there’s no finish line where everything suddenly feels okay. Mental health isn’t about finally arriving somewhere perfect, it’s about learning to be here, in this moment, as it is.

✨ Try this today:
Instead of asking “What’s missing?”
Ask “What’s already here?”

Gratitude doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It just means you’re allowing yourself to notice what’s good, even alongside the hard.
