Please join us in celebrating Shannon, a recent recipient of the DAISY Award at Glens Falls Hospital.

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who demonstrate extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. Shannon was nominated for the exceptional nursing care she provided during a time when her patient needed not only clinical expertise, but reassurance, advocacy, and unwavering support.

Throughout the patient’s experience, Shannon consistently went above and beyond to ensure their needs were met. She took the time to listen, explain each step of care, and anticipate concerns—helping to ease anxiety and build trust. Her calm presence, attention to detail, and thoughtful communication made a meaningful difference in the patient’s comfort and overall experience.

Shannon’s commitment extended beyond completing tasks; she focused on creating a sense of safety, dignity, and respect. Her actions exemplify the heart of nursing and the spirit of the DAISY Award—providing care that is both clinically excellent and deeply human.

We are proud to recognize Shannon for the compassionate, high-quality care she delivers every day.

Thank you, Shannon, for the difference you make for your patients, families, and colleagues.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

Did you know that Cervical cancer is most frequently diagnosed in women between the ages of 35 and 44, with the average age being 50. It rarely develops in women younger than 20.

Many older women don't realize that they are still at risk of developing cervical cancer as they age. More than 20% of cervical cancers are found in women over 65. However, these cancers rarely occur in women who have been getting regular tests to screen for cervical cancer before they were 65.

So, this January, make sure you are up to date with your cervical screening!

Please join us in celebrating Kayla, a recent recipient of the DAISY Award at Glens Falls Hospital.

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who demonstrate extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. Kayla was nominated for the exceptional support she provided to a patient adjusting to life after receiving an ostomy—a significant and often overwhelming change.

Following the procedure, Kayla took the time to ensure the patient felt supported, informed, and confident in their care. She provided clear education, helped identify the right ostomy products, and remained a consistent, reassuring presence throughout recovery. Even after discharge, Kayla continued to check in and advocate for the patient, ensuring continuity of care and helping ease anxiety during the transition home.

For this patient, Kayla’s compassion, follow-up, and dedication made all the difference. As the nomination shared, having Kayla by their side was “better than winning the lottery.”

We are proud to recognize Kayla for going above and beyond to support her patient not just clinically, but emotionally—embodying the true spirit of the DAISY Award.

Thank you, Kayla, for the exceptional care you provide every day.

Thank you, Kirsten, for embodying what it means to be an exceptional nurse.
