RYT 200 What is Vinyasa yoga? Breath is paired with movement. BUT IT IS!

Vinyasa is a style of yoga that strings postures together allowing you to move seamlessly from one to another. Vinyasa is for ALL levels and great for beginners. It can also be referred to as "flow" yoga. Vinyasa is very much like a dance. My classes are kept fresh and no two are the same. This allows me to be creative and focused on meeting the needs of my students. A little about me. As a yoga student, I felt intimidated in most yoga classes. I felt that if I could not flex well or balance long enough then yoga was not for me. My goal is to provide you with the confidence to get on the mat and stay focused on your personal accomplishments. I teach yoga principles and modifications that you can apply to your own life on and off the mat. I strongly believe that YOGA IS FOR ALL.

What is CHATURANGA in my yoga practice? It is pronounced chat-u-ranga! This pose is not as easy as it looks and requires a lot of strength. We hear terms in yoga class that seem more like yoga speak. I hope to demystify some of these along the way.

CHATURANGA means “four-limbed” or “four arms.” It’s a common transition pose in yoga and is also referred to as a low plank or yoga push up. Chaturanga is a common posture in a vinyasa yoga class. It's not an easy pose. Chaturanga requires whole body strength, alignment, and coordination. Chaturanga also plays a vital role in doing Sun Salutations.

CHATURANGA offers quite a few benefits. This four-limbed pose boosts energy, fights fatigue, and builds confidence. Other perks include strengthening your core, shoulders, arms, wrists, thighs and ankles.

How to do Chaturanga:

1. Start in Downward Facing Dog. Spread fingers nice and wide.
2. Roll triceps in and start to shift forward into plank pose. Feet are hip distance apart. Balls of the feet are underneath your heels.
3. Reach sternum forward. Neutral plank pose here.
4. Tuck tailbone down and pull shoulders back.
5. Bend elbows into the sides and come down halfway. Make 90 degree angle with the arms. Keep your shoulders in line with your elbows.
6. Gaze down and keep your neck long.
7. Take as many breaths as you like.

There are modifications to Chaturanga. You can lift to your comfort level and your're always welcome to lower your back body as you continue to build strength.
