World Digestive Health Day is celebrated every year on May 29. The purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of digestive health and promote measures to prevent and manage digestive disorders.
Digestive health is crucial for overall well-being because it directly impacts nutrient absorption, immune function, and mental health. A healthy digestive system efficiently breaks down food, extracts nutrients, and eliminates waste supporting energy levels, immune system function, and mental health. The gut houses a significant portion of the body’s immune cells. A healthy gut microbiota helps train the immune system to distinguish between harmful and beneficial substances. The gut and brain are closely connected with the gut producing neurochemicals that can impact mood and well-being - called the “gut-brain axis.” Foods to eat to create a good gut microbiome include raw foods like fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meats, more fiber/probiotics & low carbs/white sugar/fructose and taking supplements and colloidal minerals or trace minerals.

Today is World Thyroid Day 🩵🎗️🩷
The thyroid is an important hormone maker that is the key to a variety of body functions including weight control, bone density, women’s hormones, energy levels, body temperature, metabolism, growth development, heart rate, cholesterol levels, muscle strength, breathing, and the health of the central nervous system. The hormone thyrotropin controls the thyroid’s functions of manufacturing and releasing hormones. Iodide (iodine) from the diet is transported to the thyroid and attached to the amino acid tyrosine. Tyrosine and Iodine combine to form the hormones T4 and T3, which are then released into circulation. Promoting thyroid health means eating a lot of raw fruits and vegetables - the more raw the better for minerals, vitamins, and enzymes they contain.
Natural remedies to Hypothyroidism that can be added to your diet include selenium (tuna, turkey, brazil nuts, grass-fed beef), Vitamin B (peas/beans, asparagus, tuna, cheese, milk, and eggs), and probiotics/fermented foods (yogurt, kombucha, kefir, some cheeses) in addition to possibly adapting to a sugar-free and gluten-free diet.

The Friday before Memorial Day is known as "Don't Fry Day" 🧢🕶️☀️⛱️🧴This day is to raise awareness for skin cancer and encourage sun safety awareness by reminding everyone to protect their skin while enjoying time spent outside. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the US, but it is also one of the easiest cancers to prevent and find early. Anyone of any skin tone can get skin cancer and it is caused mostly by UV radiation from the sun.

Ways to be safe in the sun include:
- Limiting time in the sun, especially between 10 am and 4 pm
- Using a broad spectrum sunscreen of 30+ all year around & reapply 2 hours after swimming or sweating
- Wearing protective clothing, sunglasses, and hat and avoid tanning beds and sun lamps

ABCDEs of skin cancer (Check your skin!) - know what moles/spots look like on your skin and report any changes to a doctor!
A - asymmetry: one half of mole doesn’t match the other half
B - border irregularity: the mole has irregular, notched, or blurred edges
C - color variations: the mole has multiple colors or shades, such as brown, black, or blue or even possibly red, white, or gray
D - diameter: the mole is larger than 6 millimeters
E - evolution: mole is changing in size, shape, color, elevation or experiencing new symptoms

May is Arthritis Awareness Month 💜🎗️💙
People with arthritis are usually low in B12, folate and B vitamins found in B-complex vitamins. Folate comes from leafy green vegetables and B12 from red meat or Vitamin B12 supplement.
Arthritis sufferers might want to eat more fish for Omega 3 to relieve symptoms of swollen and sore joints. To avoid mercury, only eat salmon and other deep water fish. If you need a supplement, buy a good brand of Omega 3 like Nordic- flax oil also has all the benefits of Omega 3 without the toxins. People with arthritis could also be deficient in magnesium, which allows calcium to build up in the joints.

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for American women, therefore heart health is a critical concern for women of all ages and backgrounds. The heart health needs for women differ from men’s and factors such as pregnancy, daily stress, and natural changes in hormones over time influence those needs. 🫀💪🏼🩺❤️
Pregnancy can reveal or exacerbate existing heart conditions or increase the risk of developing new ones, such as hypertension, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and eclampsia. These conditions not only affect women during pregnancy but can have long-term effects on heart health.
Women often juggle multiple roles, which leads to increased levels of chronic stress; this consistent pressure leads to high blood pressure, higher cholesterol levels, and even an increased risk of coronary artery disease.
Hormonal changes throughout a woman’s life including those during menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause can affect heart health.
Prevention is possible when combining a healthy diet including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and vitamins/minerals, engaging in regular physical activity, quitting smoking, and managing stress levels. 🫐🍌🥬🍊🥑

National Women's Health Week Topic - Menopause
Menopause is the natural cessation of a woman's menstrual periods, marking the end of a woman's reproductive years. It typically begins between the ages of 45-55. During this period, hormone levels fluctuate, leading to various physical and emotional symptoms. Menopause is characterized by a decrease in estrogen and progesterone by the ovaries. The decline in these hormones leads to changes in the menstrual cycles, hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disturbances and other symptoms.

Lifestyle changes and dietary adjustments: maintain healthy weight, exercise regularly, balanced diet, limit caffeine/alcohol/spicy foods, reduce stress, consider phytoestrogen-rich foods, ensure adequate calcium & vitamin D 💪🏼🏃‍♀️🥬🫐🫘

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠🎗️💚 This is a key discussion topic during National Women’s Health Week. Women are more likely than men to experience conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and PTSD. Hormonal changes in women during puberty, pregnancy, after childbirth, and menopause can all affect a woman’s mental health. About 1 in 5 women experience mental health issues during pregnancy or in the first year after giving birth.

Everyday tips to support mental health
- Daily exercise
- Diet consisting of healthy foods - fruits, veggies & drink plenty of water
- Limit caffeine and alcohol
- Keep a regular sleep schedule

National Women's Health Week - Osteoporosis 🦴💪🏼🏋🏼‍♀️
After menopause, the risk of bone loss due to the reduction of estrogen is at its peak. This bone loss is the result of not only the reduction of estrogen, but also a diet deficient in calcium, magnesium, copper, strontium, Vitamin D, phosphorus, potassium, silica, folate and Vitamins A, B-complex, and C. The best way to prevent osteoporosis is a diet of raw fruits and vegetables, organic meats, no processed foods, no sugar or white flour products to encourage an abundance of good stomach bacteria necessary to extract all the nutrition from the foods you eat. Some foods include apple cider vinegar and bone broth made from beef bone w/marrow (supplies calcium, silica, glucose, phosphorus, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and gelatin). Exercise, especially weight bearing goes a long way in encouraging the body to produce more bone density.

My Story

I’m carrying on Grandma’s tradition. When she told you to drink a shot of vinegar, to take a spoonful of cod liver oil & to eat fresh fruits & vegetables, she was right. I give plain common sense options to help you to deal with sickness and specific ailments naturally, without pharmaceuticals as wells as offering suggestions on what foods to eat and foods that you should not eat. I believe a healthy you starts with you! Proponents of naturopathy believe proper nutrition can secure & prolong health. The holy trinity of naturopathy is exercise; raw fruits & vegetables; & a daily multivitamin & mineral supplement. Many in mainstream medicine look askance at naturopathy, dismissing it as folk medicine and quackery, unsupported by hard science & reliable studies. “Natural healing has been around for thousands of years, before aspirin, people chewed on willow bark to reduce fever, pain, & inflammation.”If there is a “magic pill,” it is this: moderation & balance. I am available to answer any questions you might have.
