Stretch of the Week:

Quad stretch- bend the knee and pull the heel to the buttocks. Try to keep the knees aligned and chest up to feel a stretch in the front of the upper thigh.

This stretch targets the 4 quadricep muscles- re**us femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, and vastus medialis.

Stretching the quads can help reduce low back pain, hip pain, and knee pain.

Spinal Flow Technique

Spinal flow uses gentle touch along the sacrum, spine and head to release areas of tightness called blockages.

Blockages are created by chemical, physical, or emotional factors and can impede energy flow and information flow in the body. As blockages release, the body's natural healing energy can flow more freely throughout.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a gentle approach to reduce tension and tightness in the body's fascial system, which is a multilayered, all-encompassing network from superficial to the deepest levels.

Fascia can become damaged by direct trauma, poor posture, and dehydration, causing myofascial trigger points in the tissue.

Addressing the myofascial trigger points and tension can help rehydrate tissues, improve ROM, and decrease pain.

MFR can help address route causes of headaches, transform unhealthy scar tissue, reduce nerve entrapment and impingment, and reduce effects of chronic stress on the body. There are many more benefits to MFR!

Stretch of the week: Anterior neck

Place your hands under the collar bones, gently press into your chest and down while looking up. You may feel stretching in your chest, neck or jaw.

Stretch each side separately if needed.

Stretch of the week: Doorway stretch.

It can be done standing with one or both arms on a door frame or laying down with head and neck supported, arms out to the side. The restorative modification is my favorite Eod stretch to stretch out internal rotator muscles like Lats and Pecs.

This stretch can help relieve tightness in the front of the body, which can be a factor in tension in the upper back and neck. You need this if you work at a computer all day. Reduce tightness in the front, feel relief in the back!

Massage can help break the cycle of tightness/restriction--- pain---- tightness/restriction ----pain by reducing tightness and communicating to the nervous system to enter rest/digestion mode.
