Caregiving is one of the most selfless and demanding roles a person can take on, whether for an aging parent, a disabled spouse, or any loved one in need. While caregiving can be rewarding, it often places tremendous physical, emotional, and mental strain on the caregiver, particularly when toxic dynamics or codependency issues emerge. Toxic relationships in caregiving can cause both the caregiver and care recipient to suffer, leading to feelings of resentment, burnout, emotional exhaustion, and even codependent behaviors. To create a healthier caregiving environment for both the caregiver and care recipient, it is essential to establish clear and compassionate boundaries.
