**MAT is unique systematic approach that looks at tightness as a form of protection in the body. MAT gets to the root of pain or injury by addressing muscle weakness rather than muscle tightness. This helps to restore normal body alignment, thereby decreasing pain and reducing the risk of injury. MAT helps you return to or improve upon your active lifestyle with renewed strength and without pain! One of the foundations of Activation Fitness is our commitment to using MAT as part of your overall exercise program. It is highly recommended that once cleared by your doctor to exercise, you are evaluated by an MAT Specialist at our studio. This evaluation will reveal what positions your body displays weakness and instability. This information will help us appropriately administer an exercise program that helps you meet your fitness goals safely and effectively.

Strength training, whether performed with weights, bands, machines or your own body weight, is important for your long-term health. Also known as resistance training, it increases muscular strength, endurance and bone density. These exercises also decreases the risk of falls and fractures as you age, thus promoting independent living, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s why the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends adults do muscle-strengthening activities two or more days per week, working all major muscle groups at a moderate or greater intensity.
