Join the Chicago Genealogical Society on March 9, 2026 from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. central for our CGS Webinar via Zoom: “American Genealogical Resources to Help you Discover Your Mexican Ancestry" with Moises Garza. Registration is required.*

Haven’t made the jump to Mexico yet, this presentation will provide you with American Genealogical Resources to help you trace your ancestors back to Mexico or its Spanish Colonial period. You will learn about websites and record sets that are vital for Mexican American genealogy research.

Our speaker will be Moises Garza. Moises’s passion for genealogy started in the cotton fields of west Texas. As a migrant worker, he was blessed to work in the fields next to his father, Lauro Garza, who had a sharp memory and told countless stories about his own ancestors. He has been doing genealogy since 1998 and has helped countless others in their own quest to find their ancestors. Today, he continues with this passion by publishing and creating resources to help you in your own search.

* Registration is required via the Chicago Genealogical Society website at https://www.chicagogenealogy.org/event-6465410 . Registration will close 1 hour prior to the event. This webinar is FREE for everyone. The webinar will take place virtually via ZOOM. Everyone registered will receive an email the morning of the event with log-in instructions and a link. This information is not to be shared.

Note: The Webinar will be recorded and available on the CGS website in the Members Only section at https://www.chicagogenealogy.org/Webinar-Archive.

Obituaries are one of the most powerful tools for understanding your DNA matches. A single obituary can name spouses, children, siblings, and even step-relations, helping you connect the dots between cousins in your match list. Use these three strategies to find obituaries and start building a family tree that works for your DNA research.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about family history lately — not just what we research, but how it feels to keep learning over time.

Some seasons are full of momentum.
Others feel overwhelming, confusing, or easy to put off.

As I plan the family history education experiences I’ll be creating in 2026, I want to do it thoughtfully and with real people in mind, not assumptions.

So I put together a short survey to better understand:
• where people are feeling stuck
• what feels hardest right now
• what kind of support would actually be helpful

Before I plan what comes next with Ancestry Virtual Events, Facebook LIVES, sessions with my pajamas & pedigrees™ community, and more, I want to listen.

If you’re willing to take 7-9 minutes, I’d truly value your perspective.

👉 Look in comments for the link to take the survey.

Thank you for helping me make what I create more supportive, meaningful, and grounded in real life people and what they need in their family history journey right now. 💛

Oh - and if you could like, comment on, and share this post it will help it get seen by others so they can contribute their opinions as well. Thanks!
