What began as a simple chair volleyball game at a senior living community in Belton, Texas, has blossomed into a joyful intergenerational friendship between residents known as “The Hit Squad” and local high school athletes. The seniors regularly host friendly matches with Lake Belton High School volleyball players, filling the community with laughter, energy, and connection.
The relationship has grown beyond game day, with residents attending the students’ games, cheering from the stands, and surprising seniors with personalized goodie bags on Senior Night. In return, students frequently visit the community, eager to build friendships and learn from the residents, inspiring even other school teams to join in. Along the way, seniors have experienced increased physical activity, stronger social bonds, and a renewed sense of purpose. This proves that a simple game can create meaningful connections across generations.
