April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and today we are honored to recognize Lesa Russo ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก๐ŸคŽ

Lesa serves as the Director of Bedside Voices of the Valley, a dedicated group of volunteer singers who bring gentle, a ca****la music to the bedside of those in need of comfort and peace. In partnership with Hospice of the Valley, this beautiful offering provides a sense of calm, presence, and connection for individuals and families, especially at the end of life.

Lesaโ€™s heart for this work runs deep.

With more than 40 years of experience as a registered nurse, she has devoted her life to compassionate care, specializing in hospice and radiation oncology. She also holds a special place in our history as the very first nurse for Hospice of the Valley and continues to serve our mission today as a member of our Board of Directors.

For Lesa, hospice is more than a career. It is a calling.

Her leadership, her voice, and her unwavering dedication continue to bring comfort, dignity, and peace to so many in our community.

Lesa, thank you for sharing your gifts and your passion with all of us ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก๐ŸคŽ

April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก๐ŸคŽ

But what does that really mean, and why does it matter?

Healthcare Decisions Day is a reminder to plan ahead and make your medical wishes known before a crisis happens. Itโ€™s about making sure your voice is heard, even if youโ€™re unable to speak for yourself.

Too often, families are left guessing during difficult moments. Having an Advanced Healthcare Directive in place takes that burden off your loved ones and ensures your wishes are honored.

Why itโ€™s important:
โ€ข Gives you control over your healthcare decisions
โ€ข Reduces stress and uncertainty for your family
โ€ข Helps guide doctors and caregivers
โ€ข Brings peace of mind for the future

Not sure where to start? Thatโ€™s where we come in.

HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley is here to walk alongside you, answer your questions, and help you complete your Advanced Healthcare Directive with confidence.

Take this opportunity to start the conversation, plan ahead, and give your loved ones the gift of clarity and peace. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก๐ŸคŽ

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and today we are honored to recognize one of our incredible volunteers, Ken ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

โ€œI volunteer at hospice because my friend developed early onset Alzheimerโ€™s. From his frustration at having to retire early to his last moments, his journey moved me. By the end, I was working with hospice routinely. There were other men in his facility whom I had come to know. After my friend died, I stayed on.โ€

For Ken, hospice is more than care. It is presence.

โ€œHospice is a hand or a hug, even when he canโ€™t say my name. It is helping someone navigate the growing indignities many of us will face. Sometimes, the main service is to a spouse or family member. It is helping with tasks, noticing changes, and creating a space that feels warm and social, even when conversation comes and goes.โ€

It is also about meeting people exactly where they are.

โ€œIt is listening to someone who lives so in the moment that a thought comes and goes before it can be expressed.โ€

And at its core, Ken reminds us why this work matters so deeply.

โ€œHospice is important because how we treat our dying says a lot about us.โ€

Ken, thank you for your compassion, your presence, and the dignity you bring to every moment ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Happy Colorado Day! ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley was founded in 2008 with humble beginnings and a powerful mission. What started with just two nurses and a chaplain has grown into a compassionate, community-centered organization serving the Roaring Fork Valley. At the time, there were no hospice services available in the area, and the need was great. Thanks to their dedication, that gap was filled with care, dignity, and heart.

Today, we continue that mission by helping patients and their families live well in the comfort of home while navigating difficult health conditions. Every visit, every conversation, and every moment of support is rooted in compassion and connection.

We are proud to serve Garfield, Pitkin, and Eagle counties, and even prouder to be part of the Colorado communities we call home.

Hereโ€™s to the beauty of Colorado and the strength of the people who make it so special.

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and today we are proud to recognize one of our incredible volunteers, Ruth ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

If her words, this is why she volunteers with HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley:

Youโ€™re deep in the battle, overwhelmed by the daily decisions that ricochet through your life, just hoping youโ€™re capable of making wise, informed choices. In walks a hospice volunteer and says in a cheery voice โ€œIโ€™m here to be your advocate, if you need to catch up on some elusive sleep, go take a nap. If you need to get a breath of fresh air, Iโ€™ve got you covered.โ€

It was as if a life preserver was flung out into my choppy sea of exhaustion and deep sadness brought on by caregiving 24/7.

I knew once I got my strength back I would pass that timely feeling of relief onto others in their arduous journey.

Iโ€™m so happy to be of service to the unsung heroes of our society - the millions of unpaid caregivers whoโ€™ve given their lifeblood so that their loved ones can stay in the homes theyโ€™ve cherished and spend their last days among the people they love.

Ruth, thank you for being that lifeline for others. Your compassion, your understanding, and your willingness to serve make a profound difference every single day ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

He is risen. ๐Ÿ’›

This Easter Sunday, we are reminded of the power of hope, renewal, and everlasting love. It is a day that calls us to reflect on faith, embrace grace, and celebrate new beginnings.

At HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley, we are honored to walk alongside individuals and families during some of lifeโ€™s most meaningful moments. Today, we celebrate the promise of peace, comfort, and the gift of each day.

May your Easter be filled with hope, surrounded by those you love, and grounded in the joy of new life.

Happy Easter from all of us at HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›
