⭐Staff Spotlight ⭐ Lisa Kartos is our Quality Director who has recently taken on compliance and education under her wing, as well! She has worked with the agency for over a decade, beginning as a field hospice and home health nurse in the Eagle Vail Valley, and then transitioning to auditing and administration after relocating out of the valley. She moved to the Denver area late 2016 and has been enjoying Golden with her 9-year-old son, River, and husband, Drew, of 15 years. She puts great importance on her faith, her family, and enjoys hobbies such as rope climbing, piano, crocheting, and doing large puzzles with her kiddo.

Today is National Tell a Joke day, and we all know that laughter is the best medicine, so here's today's dose:

An old man and a 20-year-old are paired together at a golf tournament. They’re playing a long par 5 that doglegs around some tall trees. As the 20-year-old sets up his tee shot to hit onto the fairway, the old man notes, “when I was your age, we used to hit over the trees - not around to the side.” So the 20-year-old, feeling confident and sure of himself, readjusts and tries to hit over the trees - but can’t clear them and loses his ball. He tries again and loses that one, too…

Then the old man says, “of course, when I was your age, the trees were only 6 foot tall.”

We introduced you to Skyleigh Shannon a few weeks ago. Now, she shares her inspiring journey from feeling uncertain after high school graduation to becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her story is a reminder that the right support—and a little courage—can change everything.

I'm Skyleigh Shannon, and I work with our HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley team as a CNA. I help out with our hospice and palliative clients. We do many things, from running errands and doing housework to providing compassionate and caring personal care. I truly enjoy this work and feel like my job is very rewarding, whether we’re supporting those who live alone or giving family caregivers a much-needed day of rest. 🤍

We know that listening is one of the most powerful gifts we can give each other. Whether it’s hearing a patient’s life story, a caregiver’s concerns, or a quiet moment of grief, listening creates connection, dignity, and healing. So today, on World Listening Day, let’s celebrate the power of being present and truly hearing one another. Take a little extra time to listen with compassion and without interruption. Sometimes, that’s all someone really needs. 💛
