The holidays can bring about stress and difficult emotions for anyone, and especially for people living with depression. Fortunately, these expert-backed strategies can help you feel better.

Here are some helpful solutions that you can manage right from your own home:

1) Get outdoors and stay active - whether you are hiking, taking in the sun, or even doing something indoors that keeps you busy, your focus will be on that activity, which you will be enjoying.

2) If you are feeling down, then reach out to your loved ones and talk out your feelings. Do not keep it bottled up inside. Being able to express your emotions is how you can cope with your inner feelings.

3) Set your own boundaries - if you are in a position where it is uncomfortable, then remove yourself and place yourself into a positive environment.

4) Volunteer - Volunteering your time to a nonprofit organization or a community-based event will bring you a better sense of purpose. You are making a different to help others in need.

_______

We hope that are tips can help you, but if you are finding yourself in a deeper state of depression, our certified counselors and psychologists can help you. Everything remains confidential and we are here to help.

Here are 5 tips to help you reduce anxiety naturally.

- Slow your exhale - When you get anxiety, your natural reaction is start breathing heavy and quickly. Just imagine your breath as a light switch. Turning off the switch is the same as turning off the anxiety response in your body for a longer period of time. So practice by slowing down the time you release your breathe.

- Tell yourself to STOP! When you start thinking of the worst outcome; you automatically start catastrophizing, so instead, tell yourself to focus on awareness, the current state instead of focusing on the worse case scenario, which affects your breathing pace.

- Breathing Techniques - Awareness is key! Focus, Focus, Focus. You can get more calm when you find a breathing technique that works for you. It forces you to relax instead of tensing your body's state of stree.

- One change at a time - Focus on Small Adjustments - Stress and anxiety can be overwhelming but it does take time to adjust so, just focus on making one small change at a time. This will help lower stress while making progress.

- SHIFT! - It is a great meditation that helps you clear your mind and leave anxiety behind. It helps everything stated above, along with your control and awareness.

At Next Breath Counseling, if you feel your anxiety is too much to handle alone, we can help get you through this. Just contact us today, and set up a consultation so we can learn more about what you or someone you may want to help that may be going through.

Our Story

When life becomes overwhelming, turn to Next Breath Counseling. Our approach involves working with both the mind and the body through a combination of mindfulness, neuropsychology, non-judgment, and a self-awareness that is based in the present moment. This integrated mind-body-spirit approach not only builds skills, but it also helps you to develop your ability to confidently handle various emotional states and life challenges and establish a deeper connection to yourself, reality, and truth.

For families and couples in need of therapy or counseling, Jake’s experiential therapy focuses on healing, attachment, and the ability to communicate with compassion and authenticity. You will learn how your own conditioning and patterns affect your ability to connect with others and how to cultivate your own inner sense of safety.

Those seeking recovery counseling in Glenwood Springs and beyond will benefit from Jake’s clinical and experiential perspective on recovery. Through a compassionate exploration of your past, patterns, triggers, and beliefs, you will be able to clearly understand the nature of your struggle with addiction. New skills, like Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, will help you on your journey to create a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle.
