Steve has been treating oaks in the Glenwood and Alexandria communities a lot this summer and has seen an increase in this infestation of twoline chestnut borer dramatically in the last few months. If you want to protect your oak trees, give him a call ASAP. The ability to treat will be ending soon for the season (possibly within the next 2 weeks, weather dependent). Call 320.808.8041.

The beetles crawl through damaged spots in a tree and lay their larvae inside, which feed on the inner layers, essential for growth and production.

How to Identify an Ash Tree:
1. BRANCHES & BUDS ~ positioned directly across from each other (opposite counterpart) vs alternating along the stem.
2. LEAVES ~ compound leaves with leaflets that are serrated & located opposite each other, except for the single leaf at the top of a stem. Composed of 5-11 leaflets.
3. BARK ~ young tree has relatively smooth bark. Bark becomes gray & develops diamond shaped ridges as it ages.
4. SEEDS ~ Winged seeds that are in clusters that can stay on the tree into the winter season.

Emerald Ash Borer has recently been confirmed in Pope County (as of 5/30/2024)! Without treatment, EAB eventually kills the ash tree when this invasive insect tunnels under the bark and feeds on the part of the tree that moves nutrients up and down the trunk.

Our area is now susceptible to the destruction of all ash trees, unless they are protected by injection treatments. Call Steve at Hi-View Tree Care and get on the schedule to have your trees protected before EAB attacks your tree!
