***JACK FIRE UPDATE***

Firefighters are actively suppressing a wildfire near Steamboat, approximately 30 miles east of Glide, Oregon on the North Umpqua Ranger District.

The Jack Fire, which is currently estimated at 900 acres, was reported on Monday, July 5 at 5 p.m. and is burning in grass and timber east of Jack Creek Road (Forest Service Road 4713) and west of Jack Creek. Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) and local resources utilized smoke detection cameras located on Mt. Scott, near Glide, to isolate the point of ignition. Firefighters and local resources started initial attack immediately upon locating the wildfire.

The fire was very active throughout yesterday afternoon and moderated down during the night. A section of State Highway 138, the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, or locally known as Diamond Lake Highway, was closed by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) between mile post (MP) 40 (Steamboat) and MP 47 (Dry Creek Store). A Forest closure order will soon be in effect, with additional details to follow. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Numerous resources aided in initial attack efforts, including mutual aid from Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) as well as support from a Type 3 interagency crew, which arrived last night. Resources currently assigned include 9 engines, 2 hand crews, 3 water tenders, 3 heavy lift helicopters, 1 light helicopter, 3 air tankers, and 2 fixed wings (with lead plane).

The Forest will in-brief the Type 2 Incident Management Team today at 6 p.m. The health and safety of the public and wildland firefighters is a top priority. Hot and dry conditions are expected to persist, so please be careful and stay clear of the incident. Fire danger remains HIGH and public use restrictions are in effect.

Cleanup is progressing, and the arrival of spring means construction will soon be ramping up for people affected by the Labor Day wildfires.

Event details:
Thursday, April 29, from noon to 12:45 p.m.
Watch the live Zoom video: http://dcbspage.org/APRIL.DFR.TOWNHALL

Attention Glide Families whose well was affected by the fire:

The Oregon Health Authority will provide free well water testing vouchers to private or "domestic" well
users impacted by the 2020 Oregon wildfires. Applications will be open from February 1 - May 15,
2021 at https://go.usa.gov/xAycC.
Vouchers cover the cost of testing for bacteria, nitrates, arsenic, and lead. Depending on well damage,
some may also qualify to test for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene as well. Sample collection
costs are not covered by OHA.
Voucher Eligibility:
All of the following criteria must be met:
β€’ The property was impacted by the 2020 Oregon wildfires
β€’ The well water is used for things like drinking, bathing cooking and washing dishes
β€’ The well has 3 or fewer connections and is not part of a regulated water system
Priority:
If demand exceeds supply, OHA will prioritize vouchers for:
β€’ Households that meet certain income thresholds
β€’ Communities that have been historically underserved, including people of color
β€’ Properties that had the greatest damage
β€’ Second homes or vacation rental homes will not be prioritized but may qualify.
The intent of this project is to provide water quality testing resources to those who are recovering their
homes from wildfire impacts. Because domestic wells are unregulated, water quality testing is not always
accessible to these households. After a fire, testing the well for contaminants is an important step to
assuring homes have access to safe water. If a test results indicates high levels of contaminants, OHA
will provide safety information and recommendations to the well user. OHA does not regulate private
wells.
We ask your help in providing information on this Wildfire-Impacted Domestic Well Testing Project to
community members and partners who may be eligible. Please help us particularly reach well-users who
identify as a person of color, person with disability, person with low-income, or person with limited English
language proficiency.
Contact domestic.wells@dhsoha.state.or.us or 971-673-0440 for questions.
Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division

If you sustained losses or damage due to wildfires beginning September 7,Β 2020, you may be eligible for free private well testing.Β

Glide Revitalization is set up to be the Archie Creek Long Term Recovery Group for our community. What does this mean? It means we can assist you with a variety of things. Our goal is to recover you into a "new normal". Glide Revitalization is an already existing non profit in the Glide area with a focus on revitalizing the community. So it is made up of Glide residents trying to improve the Glide area. This was a perfect set up to focus on assisting in recovery. We are working as a liaison for the community members impacted to the government agencies who can offer assistance. We have been trying to facilitate clean up options, we have had lots of donations brought in for those affected, we have people and organizations who have reached out to us in an effort to help on a large scale. There are options from help with gravel, to well inspection/testing, to rebuilding and repairing homes and outbuildings, to appliances large and small. We realize that some of those affected were underinsured and even uninsured. There are many ways Glide Revitalization can help, whether you were insured, underinsured or uninsured. We have verified properties that were affected and have established a case number for each of them. Home and property owners of property affected by the fire: Please consider - if you don't already have it - getting flood insurance! FEMA has made this recommendation with the possibility of soil instability in our area and the incoming winter rains. Please consider looking into this immediately if you haven't already!

11/16/2020

A little bit more information for those that had properties/homes impacted by the fire. The state DMTF has issued further information about Wildfire Cleanup step 2 ash and debris removal. The activity includes all commercial properties, including manufactured home parks. Debris removal will include concrete pads, burned vehicles and hazard trees. It also includes soil testing after removal is complete with results included in a notice to the property owner about the removal activities.

Glide Fire affected families:
FYI per Sheriff's office: a statement about this being the first significant series of storms to come in after the fire. I would recommend that the public be extra aware due to the changed landscape and threat of unstable soils and trees. A lot of the burn scare is not covered by cell service so if land owners get in trouble they may have no way to call for help. I would also not recommend going into these areas alone. Some of the driveways may not be passible due to changes in soils after the fire. A public works employee advised he had to help one land owner out today because they were stuck in their own driveway. I would also recommend that if property owners are going into these areas that they make sure they let someone know of their plans. That way if they do become stranded due to a tree or getting stuck at least someone knows where the are and can come and check on them.

11/10/2020

Glide Revitalization has set up some informational kiosks around the Glide area. You can find them at the Idleyld Trading Post, Idleyld Post Office, Glide Post Office, The Atom, and the 138 Grill. These kiosk will contain updated information regarding resources we have available for those affected by the fire.

Important Information for families who lost or had damage to any structures on their property!

An insurance information meeting has been arranged. Both Paul Hanlin, a private insurance adjuster from Washington (just outside Portland), and Clinton Tapper, a lawyer specializing in insurance from Eugene, will be present. This is pro bono -- an opportunity to learn more about the insurance process and get your questions answered.

Date: Saturday, November 14
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Place: Glide Community Center

Attendees must wear a face mask and maintain social distancing. Members of one household may sit together. Please do not bring small children.

The meeting will be limited to those who have suffered structure or personal property losses from the Archie Creek Fire and would like some advice on navigating the insurance maze.

We'd like a head count so Paul can prepare handouts. If you plan to attend, please email webmaster@glidecommunityclub.org.

Both Paul and Clinton were very informative when we talked with them (separately) on the phone. If you are dealing with insurance, this session should be helpful. For background on them: Paul -- http://www.nwclaimconsulting.com/ Clinton -- https://www.tapper-law.com/ Also, useful videos, including some by Clinton, at https://www.oregontriallawyers.org/?pg=2020FireRelief

Feel free to share this with anyone you know who is dealing with insurance.
