Low vitamin D levels can affect:

Mood and seasonal depression
Bone strength and fracture risk
Immune resilience
Inflammation and autoimmune balance
Digestion and gut health

Vitamin D levels naturally peak in September after a summer of sun exposure and typically hit their lowest point in February, which makes winter an especially important time to pay attention.

Make sure to support your immune system or nervous system throughout the winter!

I’m introducing a new health tool - the Vibe Portal wearable PEMF device, that I have been using for a couple of years now.

To be honest, I was very skeptical at first. Based on a recommendation of a health practitioners I decided to try it myself. I was genuinely surprised by how helpful it was for myself and family members.

The Vibe works quietly in the background to support nervous system regulation, focus, grounding, and emotional balance. It’s not something you feel strongly, but rather something that gently supports the body while carrying it in your pocket.

There are many settings available to use. The settings I tend to use frequently and find helpful are:
👉 ADHD setting – my go-to for writing newsletters, admin work, and getting things done
👉 Earth settings – deeply grounding
👉Anxiety setting – I’ve seen family members respond within minutes!

It’s become one of those tools I’ll forget is even in my purse and pull out when I need extra reinforcement in my energy or nervous system.

In a recent email, I shared why vitamin D is such a crucial player in immune health, mood, bone strength, especially during the darker winter months.

Living in New England means we experience long stretches of the year with very little opportunity to make vitamin D naturally from sunlight.

From late fall through early spring, the sun simply isn’t strong enough to support adequate vitamin D production — even on bright days.

For years, I’ve encouraged my patients to check their vitamin D levels through regular blood work and supplement based on their individual needs, not guesses.

Most lab reports list 30 ng/mL and above as “adequate.” However, research looking at immune health, bone density, mood, and cancer prevention suggests that optimal vitamin D levels are closer to 60–80 ng/mL for many people.

Unfortunately, not all supplements are created equal.

At Acupuncture Family Care, I take the guesswork out by offering professional-grade supplements that I personally vet for:
🔹 Quality and purity
🔹 Absorption and formulation
🔹 Taste (especially for liquids and chewables)
🔹 Warehouse and quality sourcing

We carry multiple formulas to support individual needs and absorption. Available in liquid, chewable or capsule.

Infrared sauna therapy is another excellent tool during the colder months. Sauna helps shift the body into a rest, digest, and heal state—something many of us deeply need in winter. Personally, it’s one of my favorite ways to relax and unwind in the evening during the colder months.

Benefits include:
🔹 Deep, penetrating warmth
🔹 Immune system support
🔹 Inflammation reduction
🔹 Nervous system regulation

Plus much more - read in the blog highlighted below.

Sessions are available in AFC’s Sunlighten’s mPulse sauna.

Help for Winter Time Challenges

We are in the tail end of the year of the snake and there is a lot of shedding and challenges that are coming up for people before we enter the year of the horse. If you having been wanting to purge your house, clean out closets, take down the holiday decorations, let go of habits that are no longer serving you as you move forward, that is exactly the energy happening right now.

Additionally, we are in the deep yin time of the year. The time traditionally we should rest more, eat warming foods, basically slow down. I think of it as akin to a little mini hibernation in our own way to recharge, in particular the kidneys. And yet, culturally we have come off one of the busiest times of year where we are asked to do even more on a daily level. It isn’t unusual for December to mean less rest, more stress, poor eating with heavier rich foods and more sugar (resulting in increased inflammation & lowering immunity), and maybe more alcohol consumptions. And on top of that all is an increase in flu, covid, colds, norovirus and other viruses. It is a bit of the perfect storm.

These are the tools and habits I use with my family (and recommend to patients) to support the body’s natural detox systems — especially during the winter months when we’re exposed to more indoor pollutants, move less, and sweat less.

Let me know which ones you're using or want to learn more about!

Did you know that eating more fiber may actually help your body eliminate forever chemicals like PFAS?

Research suggests that soluble fiber (like the kind found in avocados, oats, and legumes) can bind to bile acids in the gut and prevent reabsorption of toxins — meaning more gets flushed out when you 💩.

Eating fiber-rich whole foods isn't just about digestion — it supports detox, hormones, energy, mood, and more. It’s one of the most underrated yet powerful tools for long-term health.

✨ Reminder: p**p daily, hydrate, move your body, and eat a rainbow. Your future self will thank you.
