It's Yoga Wednesday at Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC and today we highlight Easy Pose
Easy Pose (Sukhasana) is the name for any comfortable, cross-legged, seated position, and one of the most basic poses used in yoga practice and meditation. In this case, however, easy doesn't mean the opposite of difficult. It means "with ease." So, sitting in Sukhasana is actually sitting any way you can with ease. For some people, using props such as blankets, towels, and yoga blocks can help you feel as comfortable as possible in this pose.
Benefits
Easy Pose is a hip-opening pose that stretches the knees and ankles and strengthens the back. It is also a calming pose and it is one commonly used for meditation and practicing breathing exercises. While children often sit in this position, adults get used to sitting in chairs and develop tight hips. Easy Pose can help open up tight hips.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Arrange supportive padding (blanket, block, or bolster) under your sit bones so that your hips will be higher than your knees when you come into the pose.
Come to sit on your padding in a comfortable, cross-legged position. Shift the flesh of your butt to each side with your hands so that your sit bones have a firm foundation.
Lean back and forth and side to side with your torso a few times to make sure that your shoulders are aligned directly over your hips. Slide the shoulder blades down your back so that your shoulders move away from your ears. The crown of your head should rise towards the ceiling.
Your hands can rest in your lap or on the tops of your thighs. Turn your palms up to be receptive or down to feel grounded.
On your inhalations, feel your spine grow long. On your exhalations, root down through your seat.
Common Mistakes
Sukhasana is a pretty straightforward pose, but it involves several parts of the body. In order to get the most benefits from the pose, and avoid discomfort and possible injuries, try these tips for fine-tuning the position.
Safety and Precautions
This pose should be avoided if you have a knee injury. If you are pregnant, always talk to your doctor before doing this pose or any other yoga poses.

This week’s collective Mystical Shaman Oracle card…

FLOW

THE ESSENCE

There is a natural movement of events in the world. You can see it in phenomena such as the tide, the ebb and flow of oceans and rivers that rise up from the earth then flow to the sea. The symbol of Flow represents the effortless and natural movement toward a certain destination. It signifies an ability to gracefully move around obstacles and reminds you of the sense of allowing.

THE INVITATION

When Flow comes to visit, it’s a sign that your intentions have been in motion. Now is the time to allow nature to run its course; you are being called to effortless movements and the path of least resistance. It’s like being within music, flowing within partnership. Think of the artist who creates without guile or craft, calling creativity up from the soul and bringing it to life without effort. You are called to be like a river, knowing the fulfillment of destiny is assured. Enjoy the ride.

Do you have an imbalance?

Each dosha has a principle location...Kapha's is the chest, Pitta's is the small intestine and Vata's is the colon.

When a dosha starts to go out of balance these areas will be where you see the first signs. Here are a few examples of imbalances:

Vata: nervous stomach, cramps, chronic pain, irritable bowel
Pitta: heartburn, rashes, poor eyesight, hostility
Kapha: obesity, diabetes, congested sinus, chest colds

Ayurveda Wellness Healing lunch challenge....

Ayurvedically speaking our lunch should be made fresh and be the biggest meal of the day.

Having a big lunch is important because the sun, pitta energy (element of fire, energy of transformation!), and our agni (digestive fire), are all in alignment. This means big, lots o' fire to digest big, lots o' food! Our digestive fire is the strongest it will be all day long and it's looking for a big meal to work on. If we wait to have our biggest meal at dinner, there is no fire left in nature or in us, so the food sits like a big blob in our bellies until the next day. Yuck!

Put the salad down. Salads are popular because they don't have to be heated, they stay pretty fresh all day, and they are easily carried around. Plus, veggies! Unfortunately, salads are not the best choice from an Ayurvedic perspective because they are cold, light, rough, and can be hard for many people to digest. They can be okay in summer time for some people but overall they don't give enough staying power for anyone and by 3:00 we'll be sniffing around for cookies or chocolate.

Choose warm, nourishing foods. If possible, lunch should be warm, full of vegetables, delicious spices and flavors, protein of choice and balanced by what your dosha needs.

Try really hard not to eat at your desk. Multi-tasking and eating do not mix because we confuse our minds. "Am I eating food? Or am I typing? Or am I talking?" says the mind. The focus needs to be on the food so we can taste it, chew it well, and begin the digestive process healthfully (digestion starts in the mouth!). At the very least, step away from your desk and go into a conference room. Play your favorite Pandora or Spotify station to create a nice ambiance.

Bonus points if you can take a leisurely 15-minute walk outside after lunch. It helps the digestive process and keeps our mind nourished. This is not a power walk, it's a stroll.

If not now, when?

This weeks collective Mystical Shaman Oracle card…

LIGHTENING

THE ESSENCE

The formidable electrical discharge of a lightning bolt brightens the sky and strikes the Earth, accompanied by the mighty sound of thunder.
This phenomenon has a positive aspect—the light illuminates the Earth and the psyche. But there is a destructive side as well; the bolt can burn, and even kill, if it’s too strong.

THE INVITATION

The forces of the upper world are investing their gathered energies to ignite you with new inspiration and creativity. Allow this divine gift of awakening to take root in your being, and enjoy a renewed sense of clarity, passion, and vision.
