had an incredible time inspiring the next generation at the Chesapeake Worlds of Work event! 🌟

More than 3,000 eighth grade students explored hands-on activities and learned what a “day in the life” looks like across many rewarding career paths at CHKD. Our Medical Transport, Pharmacy, Stop the Bleed (Trauma Education), Radiology, and Respiratory Therapy teams proudly represented CHKD, sharing their expertise and passion for pediatric care.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in helping students see just how meaningful a career in healthcare can be!

Recently, the Nuss Center at CHKD hosted the 2025 Nuss Advanced Pectus Course, a gathering of more than 80 physicians dedicated to advancing the care of children with chest wall deformities. 💙

Held at Lester Hall in Eastern Virginia Medical School, participants used the latest pectus equipment in hands-on learning sessions. Then, we gathered at The Chrysler Museum of Art for a celebratory dinner. We were honored to welcome Dr. Donald Nuss, 2022 Ladd Medal Recipient and developer of the Nuss Procedure, whose groundbreaking work at CHKD has helped transform pectus excavatum, or “sunken chest syndrome” treatment around the world.

For more than 30 years, CHKD has been a leader in chest wall deformity care, performing over 3,000 corrective surgeries, more than any other center in North America. To learn more about how CHKD treats pectus excavatum, visit CHKD.org/Nuss.

When redshirt sophomore Alyssa Legault from Bryant & Stratton College faced an ACL injury that required surgery in spring 2024, she was determined to get back on the field and play the sport she loves. After her procedure in her hometown of Quebec, Canada, Alyssa came to CHKD Sports Medicine in Ghent seeking softball-specific rehabilitation and performance testing with our Sports Medicine Program.

Working with CHKD Sports Medicine Physical Therapist Lane Wildman, Alyssa began rebuilding her strength and confidence through CHKD’s baseball and softball rehab program.

Despite suffering a shoulder dislocation after returning to softball practice, then undergoing a Latarjet procedure in December 2024, Alyssa’s resilience never wavered. Alyssa returned to CHKD following winter break, where she continued working hard to rehab both her knee and shoulder.

By spring 2025, Alyssa was back on the field, playing 28 games as an outfielder and hitting an impressive .400 on the season! Today, Alyssa continues to check in with her CHKD Sports Medicine care team, sharing her progress and inspiring other softball athletes. Way to go, Alyssa! 💙
