Adaptive.

It’s a buzz word in the yoga world these days.

But what’s it mean?

To me, personally, it’s “just my yoga” 🧘‍♀️

Because every single aspect of my life is adapted as a person with complex chronic conditions. I have to adapt significantly to “fit” into the society standards we have today, as well as to just navigate my home independently...

So adaptive yoga is what I do.

Come take a class with me and begin to find out how you can adapt your world to fit your life.

You can schedule individual sessions or if you have a few friends you want to practice with, you’re welcome to schedule a session for your group!

💜 Every practice looks different 🙏

Some days I’m moving and some days I’m restoring. 🧘‍♀️💃

But every day I’m working towards better wellness practices 💚

☯️

Spending 5-10 minutes a day to start is all you need to do to develop habits that lead to improved well-being . 🤗

🍄mushrooms🍄

My parents have a spot where their wood gets delivered for winter. I noticed these guys and when I tired to move the wood, they GRABBED that piece and hugged it. 🥰

I have never in my life seen mushrooms move but I can’t describe it any other way.

I was able to show my daughter how with this other mushroom- you can see the white growth under it still where it grew from decay.

Observing nature has given me a lot of knowledge about systems and how each one is dependent on others and there’s no competition.

Existing for simply existing. 🌀

Continue learning to expand your own abilities and learn from a mushroom- grow when things decay around you.

Every human is born with gifts. 💕

As I write my story I’m reminded of the strength I have gained; the battles I have fough; the privileges I have.

My story is imperative as I move forward through my wellness journey because it is why I am here in the first place. 🌀

If you don’t like how your story is being told— only you have the power to change that. 🖌

Taking an honest look at wellness, and investing in yourself can make incredible things happen.

A door will open if you have the correct key 🗝

Not my words...
But these words belong to all souls 🌻

🔅We ALL deserve to feel good.

🔅For folks with chronic illness, pain, etc., feeling pain is (almost always) a constant.

🔅Being able to find moments of relief- maybe it’s an entire practice, maybe it’s 5 minute— is what I strive to teach my students.

🔅My body wakes up in pain daily, and it’s up to me to remember that not every single fiber of my being is hurting. I spend time with myself and find my strength for the day.

🔅Reach out if you’re interested in learning more. I would love to take on 1-2 private clients.

Yoga.
🔅
Stand with your head towards the sky.
Feet grounded into the mat.
Feel the energy move up through the feet, rising up the legs, hips, back... until it reaches the crown.
🔅
Expand your crown up to the clouds. Fill the space between the ground and the sky with vibrant, pure, ever-lasting gratitude and love for the self.
🔅
• Adapted Awareness Yoga is building on the human movements you have already and expanding them to include movements that feel good to the body.

• It’s pushing yourself when you feel its necessary to reach a goal with the understanding that not every flower blooms at the same time, and goals need to be met at different stages for success.

• Inconsistently working towards a goal also gets you there. Just slower.

Reach out if you’re interested in learning more. I’m hoping to take on 1 or 2 private clients, and my class schedule for July will be posted soon.

⭐️ Binding is not something I do often.. I wanted to show these pictures and how a bind might not look the same in all bodies. I mentioned my arms are challenged - they don’t bend! There are binds that are completely inaccessible to me because of my arms being too short and crooked from the rMED ... guess what-!?! I can still practice them 🙃

My elbow bends and tucks nicely into my back side body.. but there’s no way she’s gonna reach all the way around so I EXTEND my own arm using a strap.

I’m binding.
I’m then confronted with my brain telling me- no your not..
So I close my eyes.
And I’m in a bind 🙏

Do not let anyone tell you your practice is not right. There’s a huge difference in CORRECT and being “right”. Please practice safety first, of course. Find the way your body does the posture. It’s not about the posture or the pose. It’s what it feels like 💚

Day 4: Twist 🔆

I have limited range of motion in my elbows (& other joints also), which makes many postures interesting to fully figure out. While twisting in goddess pose, my elbows & feet often impact my ability to access the full posture.

Twists can bring space and relief when done correctly. It’s important to note that *correctly* looks different for ALL bodies. My practice is modified due to bone and muscle deformities, and therefore bringing the arm down might not be as comfortable in your body. Spending time in the posture and adding tools can make a tremendous difference in how your body responds.

I utilized my wheel for a supported goddess pose which gives me the ability to focus on the posture rather than what my feet are doing. Supporting my lower body and keeping the knees even with the hips allowed me to twist deeper while feeling stability in the feet as well.

Late to the party, but I still want to participate 💚

THANK YOU to the hosts and sponsors of this challenge 💫

Inclusion in yoga is something I am personally working on as I could NOT find images of people with dwarfism doing yoga when I first began my practice. So I’m starting to create what I needed.

Postures are outward expressions of internal feelings and sensations. Learning to feel safe in my disabled body and understanding that the movements it makes will undoubtedly look different than anyone else are the most pivotal takeaways that yoga has provided for me.

We learn something new everyday and I am so excited to share my knowledge in this space. Fierce Wonder is what I have for my body and it’s place in the world around me, and it’s what I want to share as to help others develop relationships with their own bodies on various levels.

Here’s days 1-3.
: I use a bolster or a blanket to sit on so that my hips are elevated and more level to my knees.

- I often use blocks or my elbows to hold on to, so that I’m keeping points of contact and not letting my body dangle freely, but with structured freedom.

: this was my first unassisted Backbend. I had practiced with a yoga wheel, and this picture was taken when I pulled up for the first time without the wheel.

Imagine your toes peeling off the mat and lifting to the sky as your crown grounds down to the Earth 💫

Even if you’re not there yet, awareness of the body in certain postures builds muscle memory and each practice will become better.

It’s my own personal goal to get into a forearm-stand. I cannot handstand typically because of my wrist immobility, so I use my forearms and have begun to actively engage my core so that I can use that to pull my legs up eventually.

For now, I lift my toes up and practice the feeling 💚

🔅Keep practicing!
🔅Keep moving!
🔅Keep breathing!

🍄Come forth into the light of things. Let nature be your teacher. -William Wordsworth 🍄

Stretching my wings and preparing to jump is nature’s way of teaching me I’m ready. My shoulders ache and my fingertips tremble knowing I’m supposed to be flying, but flying with broken wings is scary.

Jump. Fly. Soar. 🍃
