Today was the last day of business for the year. To say that this past year has been a learning experience is an understatement. Taking an old school practice to the new school takes a whole lot of energy, friction, teamwork, and oh yeah… money 🤑 But it’s been so worth it. I can’t even begin to thank all of the people who have supported my vision to make this place a reality. To my kick-ass staff - thank you for learning new things, taking on responsibilities, supporting each other and assisting me in every way. To my family and especially .a.doroshenko who have spent hours in my office helping me renovate, I couldn’t do it without you!! And to my patients, who have put their trust in me to care for the dental health and have left me nothing but tons of five star reviews on Google, you all are the best!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am so proud of what has been achieved in a years’ time. Comparing this past month to January ‘21 is insane. Systems in place, the flow, the level of service and care - it’s gone from pen and paper to digital; totally uncoordinated to a ballet… we get s**t done and it’s all about the patients. Customized, personalized, whole-body approach to dentistry with the latest in technology.

Here’s to another successful year as a SMALL BUSINESS who is kicking corporate dentistry’s butt and just putting them to shame.

Smiling because... it’s a new year! 😺⁣

Starting this year as a small business owner and feeling good about it! I am so thankful for all the support of .a.doroshenko, my parents, and my team for helping me get to this point. It’s only been about 6 months, but I’ve made huge strides. It’s pretty crazy to think back about how much has been accomplished since last August 😲 — Converting paper charts to digital, installing and using new equipment (CBCT, PrimeScan, intraoral X-ray machine, cavitrons) painting and redecorating, new phone system with text messaging, digital patient forms and consent forms, a new website, rebranding, team uniforms, reorganizing all the supplies and inventory, changing the way we bill and submit to insurance, expanding our services, and learning many new skills...⁣

Many days I feel like I get nothing done, or it’s two steps forward and one step back. October was pretty rough because everything kept breaking and it was major growing pains. But when I reflect back, I realize it is quite the opposite. And a year from now, it will certainly be even more accomplished. Running a dental practice as a solo practitioner certainly isn’t the easiest, but I am very proud to be doing it and grateful I have so many people backing me up, particularly my team. I’m excited to see what this year holds and I am grateful to be running my dental practice exactly how I want it to be - because helping people be healthier and providing excellent care is always my mission. ⁣

One month down!! It’s hard to believe, but it’s been one month of practice ownership! It’s been a whirlwind - and that’s a big understatement 🦷⁣

2020 was the year I planned to find and purchase my own office. Then the pandemic hit, but I wasn’t going to let COVID get in the way of my dream. Despite it all, I found the perfect place in Glyndon, Maryland. The previous owner, Dr. Toth, is a very meticulous clinician and truly cared for his patients. I am very honored to take over as I have the same dedication and attention to detail as he does, so it makes for a perfect transition! On top of that, I have some of the nicest and most kind patients and it’s really been incredible. ⁣

But I also wouldn’t be here without the help of all my girls at the office and friends and family supporting me! It is such a team effort and I appreciate it all!!⁣ Big thanks to .a.doroshenko for helping with everything from dentistry to rebuilding computers, to for all the business help, and for clearing the clutter, organizing like a boss, and helping me keep my sanity ❤️

“You don’t look like a dentist” - I hear this ALL. THE. TIME.⁣

Newsflash! Women can do whatever they want! And just ‘cause we like the color PINK doesn’t mean we are inferior. In fact, women are very caring and gentle, so who could be better to be a healthcare provider? Just saying…⁣

But it’s not always easy for us. Yes times are way better than a generation ago. My mom made SURE I had big goals and that I got there. She kicked my butt when I would act wimpy because she knew I could do it and frankly, she never got such opportunities. I’m beyond thankful for her determination and tough love!!!⁣

So ask any woman in the medical field about this and I 100% guarantee she’ll have at least one story, but reality is that she’ll have a list of stories about how she’s been put down or treated as less. Check out who has shared hundreds of such stories, it’s insane.⁣

One instance that really sticks with me is back when I was a dental student. I met a complete stranger on a plane, who asked me what I was studying. I told him I was in dental school. He replied “oh to be a dental assistant? That’s nice”. I nicely replied, “no, to be a dentist.” He was taken aback, shocked, he said, “to be THE dentist?” Me: “umm yes… to be THE dentist….” -- Why is this so hard for some people to believe still??⁣

That sort of conversation has happened to me many many times, to this day. My point is if you ask any male dental student if he’s ever been questioned if he’s going to be “THE dentist”, I bet he will say no. It just doesn’t happen to them. ⁣

So today I am standing with and to show that women can be doctors and that women doctors can wear whatever they want!! ⁣

Photo by my dear .a.doroshenko who supports me every step of the way!! ⁣and I nominate .trontz to share your experiences! ❤️
