Tehachapi Breastfeeding Counselor - Jessie McDiffett, CBC Providing compassionate breastfeeding support & info through one on one consults or online course.

I'm a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor, and Mom of three including twins. My passion is to help you reach your breastfeeding goals by providing you with the skills and knowledge you need to do what's best for your family. Only you can decide what that is; I'm just here to help and support.

bies), and I can help with many other common questions and concerns from birth to first foods to weaning tips. No question is "silly" and I will strive to provide the most scientifically accurate info I can and clear up the confusion of all the random advice we get as moms. ;)

In these days of social distancing and stress, moms need more support than ever, so please don't hesitate to reach out any time or ask for a price estimate. My desire is to keep prices low enough to help anyone who needs me. I also offer a discount to those who schedule a consultation within the first week of getting home from the hospital, or those who get in touch before delivery. I can offer in-person consultations for those in the Tehachapi area, in your home or mine. I will happily wear a mask and follow safety protocols--please let me know how I can make you comfortable. If necessary, I can also offer virtual assistance by Facetime, Marco Polo app, phone call, or even messaging. Please keep in mind that my ability to observe well and give you the most specific answers for your situation may be limited by these more distant forms of communication, but I will do my best. Virtual consults and in-person consults are the same price, so in-person is better value. As a Breastfeeding Counselor, I am not qualified to diagnose, prescribe, or give medical advice, but I am more than happy to make recommendations and refer you as needed.

I sorted through some old baby clothes this weekend and wow, the emotions hit me like a wave!! And it reminded me of the reason I decided to become a breastfeeding counselor in the first place….

I may have trouble remembering the names of the people I met at church last week or the plot of the movie my husband and I watched last month, but gosh when I hold up those baby clothes, I remember the feeling of holding my kids as babies like it was yesterday. And I think that’s true for just about every mom I’ve talked to, no matter their age. I’ve often had older moms tell me their stories when they hear what I do, and even my own grandma in her 90’s could tell me what her early breastfeeding experience was like each of her kids and how it made her feel.

The baby days pass so fast but are some of the most powerful, significant, and memorable years of our lives as moms—and as women. Some memories are fond ones, and some are more filled with challenges, regrets, or shame. Personally, I was so blessed to have people who shared information & encouragement that made a big difference in my own “baby days.”

My biggest driving passion whenever I spend time with moms in the baby stage is to be a encouraging force toward those positive memories. I want moms to feel confident in their knowledge and skills, empowered to overcome challenges, and at peace with the choices they make for their family. No self-doubt, no shame, no regrets. I keep my prices affordable because I believe every mom deserves that confidence & support.

Always remember that YOU are the best mom for your baby, and help and support is there for those who look for it. It’s such a huge honor to be a part of your journey! 💕

The day-to-day can feel monotonous, but all the “little things” you do for your baby truly shape them into the whole person they will become. These early tiny moments of responding to their needs show them what it is to be human, to have needs & to meet needs. You’re teaching them that people can be trusted and that they are worth listening to. Studies have shown even if you get it right just 30% of the time, you’re creating healthy attachment & emotional development. Keep it up, you’re shaping the world one life at a time!

Dear newborn mother,

Please know that this is what productivity looks like.

It looks like feeding your baby on the couch for an hour, sometimes more.

It looks like leaving a dent in the cushions when you leave, if you leave, but you don’t have to leave.

It looks like being constantly relied
upon, and poo’d on and spewed on.

It looks like burping them, and cleaning them. And then cleaning yourself, but only if you have time.

It looks like ignoring the mess surrounding you and somehow making more. There’s always more.

It looks like staring at them for the longest time so that you completely lose track of time.

It looks like taking lots of photos and videos of them and then cringing at the sound of your own voice on playback.

It looks like conversing in one-sided baby language and constantly thinking “there’s a smile” with only the slightest of mouth movements.

It looks like stroking their hair, nuzzling them, and kissing their cheeks because you still can’t believe they’re real.

It looks like asking your husband to bring you things. And not bring you things. And then him forgetting to bring you things.

It looks like rocking them, hushing them, and singing to them. Or just anything that works really.

It looks like letting them fall asleep on you and letting them stay asleep on you.

It looks like putting them in their bassinet so you can sleep but staring at them again instead.

It looks like you sleeping, eating and showering when you can. Or at least trying to anyway.

It looks like doing what you need to survive the days and nights, the weeks and months.

It looks like you and them, figuring it all out together, one day at a time.

Productivity comes in many different forms and this is one of them. So if you have done nothing other than some of the above today, know that you have been productive.
Know that you are working hard.
Know that you are doing great things.

You may not feel alive right now, but you are keeping someone else alive.
That’s productivity at it’s finest.

Keep up the good work.

Best (sleep) wishes,
Another newborn mother.
