Duwayne enlisted in 1949, not quite sure what he’d signed up for. He quickly found his footing by beating a recruit from New Jersey in an arm wrestle, a memory he still shares fondly. He served until 1953, and when asked what he liked best about his time in the Navy, he simply says he liked it all. 💙

Eva served from 1944–1946.
Her journey to service is unforgettable — she and a friend went to sign up for the Alaskan pipeline but were too late. As they walked away, they saw a sign for the Marine Corps across the street and decided to enlist!
When asked what advice she would give to someone joining today, she simply says: “Get in line!” 💙
A remarkable life, a trailblazing spirit, and a story that inspires us all.
