We send a huge shout-out to Anne Swieringa who just donated over 20 new and wonderfully decorated grooming brushes to us! Anne just graduated 8th grade at Aspen Academy in Greenwood, Colorado, where she successfully completed their unique Entrepreneurship Program. Anne’s entrepreneurial capstone project was to start and operate an actual business, which she called the Barn Boutique, and with which Anne generated donations of
custom horse brushes that she so generously gave to Project Horse!

We’re so grateful for Anne’s drive, her creativity and love of horses, and especially her passion for helping others! All of our horses (and donkeys!) are thrilled with their new, beautifully and inspirationally decorated grooming brushes!! Thank you so much, Anne! ❤️🐴❤️

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Awareness Month strives to reduce the negative attitudes and misconceptions that surround mental illness.
Each year, organizations across the country adopt a theme related to Mental Health Awareness Month. This year’s theme is “Turn Awareness into Action”.

The goal of this theme is to not only celebrate the progress made in recognizing the importance of mental health, but challenging all to turn understanding into meaningful steps toward change.

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning is a proven modality, as a stand-alone or adjunct therapy and can help individuals enhance self-awareness, recognize maladaptive behaviors and identify negative feelings.

This article explores and identifies how Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy can provide mental health benefits.

We often think back fondly on the therapy horses who graced our pastures and barns over the years, but who eventually passed over the Rainbow Bridge… Today, we are remembering Foster — aka Lord Foster and Rum Runner. Today, Foster would have turned 22 years old. ❤️🐴❤️
Foster helped so many individuals over the years… especially those who had experienced trauma, abuse or neglect in their pasts. We honor Foster, and we thank him so much for all those he helped! ❤️

Wishing all Veterans, and Military Service Members, a peaceful Veterans Day. May it be a time to reflect on and honor service, as well as a time to begin accepting support, improving self care, and working to reduce symptoms of PTS and Moral Injuray. There are many cost-free Veterans-specific programs around the country, to help support Post Traumatic Growth, and more -- like Project Horse's Warrior Herd program.

Today, on what would have been her 21st birthday, we remember our Quiet Healer, Penny.

We are eternally grateful to have known her, to have witnessed her power, and to have loved her. Her ability to connect with those who needed her quiet strength in their healing journeys left us in awe.

We love and miss you, Penny ❤️

This is National Su***de Prevention Week, with today being World Su***de Prevention Day

The theme for World Su***de Prevention Day 2024 is "Changing the Narrative on Su***de - Start the Conversation".

This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent su***des. Changing the narrative on su***de is about transforming how we perceive this complex issue and shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support.

It’s important to not only check in on your loved ones, but also on yourself.

If you or someone you care for is struggling, please reach out for help. The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 to provide confidential support.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month– a time to remember the lives lost to su***de, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families and communities that have been impacted by su***de. It’s also a time to raise awareness about su***de prevention and share messages of hope.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, in 2022 more than 48,000 people died by su***de. That’s one death every 11 minutes.

Su***de is complicated and tragic, but it is often preventable. We can all help raise awareness by sharing resources that help others – and ourselves - recognize the warning signs for su***de and know how to get help.

Today is National Grief Awareness Day

All too often, those experiencing grief may feel they aren’t allowed to grieve. They may feel judged when grieving, or that they are only “allowed” to grieve for a specific period of time.

It cannot be said enough: There is no expiration date on grief.

Grief is a highly personal journey. Feelings and memories can come back in waves, emotions can come rushing back at any moment throughout one’s life. Supportive family and friends can help us navigate our grief but sometimes, we need additional support.

From mental health professionals to community and national support groups to a variety of therapies such as equine-assisted psychotherapy, there is support available. If you feel you need additional support, you can do an online search for your specific city/county using key words such as “grief counseling” or “grief support”.

It’s back-to-school time!

Along with all the hustle and bustle of shopping for clothes, supplies, figuring out schedules and getting back into a school routine, some kids can feel anxious about their return to school.
