Platelets gave his wife a second chance at life. Now, Mike’s commitment to donating is paying that gift forward every day.

Thank you to everyone who donated at our first Aurora Theater Memorial Blood Drive yesterday. Thanks to our incredible volunteer blood donors, we collected 27 lifesaving units of blood that will help numerous patients in need this summer.

Changes in eligibility mean more donors like Michael can save lives today.

Michael served in the Air Force for 20 years and spent time stationed in England during the early 90s. Because of those deployments, he was unable to donate blood for decades due to previous rules related to vCJD, also known as mad cow disease.

Now that those restrictions have been updated, Michael is proud to roll up his sleeve and give back in a new way. He says, "I believe the world would be a much better place if we were all a little kinder. Donating blood is just one way I’m trying to do my part."

Reminder: Another Way to Pay it Forward

In honor of the survivors, first responders and 13 lives lost on July 20, 2012, a special blood drive will be held—organized by Vitalant Account Manager and survivor Dylan Boxer. Dylan and his best friend survived the 2012 theater shooting, and now they’re helping turn heartache into hope.:

“I’m incredibly grateful to help turn grief into healing,” said Boxer.
“Even on a day marked by tragedy, we have the power to come together, support one another, and give the gift of life.”
