Modern Movement Clinic

Modern Movement Clinic A modern and individualized approach to your rehab and strength training. We give you what you likely haven't had before, our time and attention to detail.

We typically say "we're likely not the first person you will see, but we typically are the last". We are located on the second floor of the Applewood Tech Center building right off Youngfield Street. You'll take a left after exiting the elevator on the second floor, then a quick right to travel down the hallway. You'll take one more right and just a couple doors down on your left will be Modern Movement Clinic. If you are scheduled, come on in! No walk-ins or solicitation, por favor. Ain't nobody got time for that!

I try to explain this to every new client.

Why?

Because most have had their pain explained to them in such a way that leaves them feeling fragile, broken, a lesser version of themselves.

Not exactly inspiring conversation to “get better” right?

We can make it easy without making it seem hopeless.

Are you triggered?

Well again…that says more about your ego. Every now and again I’ll have (mostly males) someone come in who wants to train really hard or play a sport they used to at the level they used to. And they typically go “full send” with zero training progression leading up to the thing. Inevitably, they get hurt, self-select out of that sport, and recycle this pattern.

Can we just be honest? Of course, it’s harder to recover as you age…duh! So many other things go into this though!

What’s been your training prior to?
What level of training intensity was it?
How consistent were you with that?
Prior injuries related to your goal?
And most importantly, are you willing to work up to the level of intensity with that goal?

I know you wanna feel alive but the better question to ask is “what’s making you NOT feel that right now?”.
Because what happens if…you get injured during this? It’s something you have to consider and face if you truly wanna do the thing.

Doesn’t matter if you’re a 45 year old who wants to get back to playing hockey “with the boys” or
A 35 year old mother who wants to get an Olympic qualifying time for the marathon…don’t run away from what you need to face first and almost GUARANTEE, your training will go exponentially better if you do.

No, I’m Not Training For Anything

If you haven’t noticed…I work a lot with runners. Just giving you a lens into my ego, I often have imposter syndrome. No I haven’t ran at the Boston Marathon. Nope, haven’t ever ran an ultramarathon. Nah…haven’t done an Ironman. I don’t really have any intention at the moment either. It certainly doesn’t make me less of a clinician that doesn’t equip me to work with that population. I just happen to be really f’in good at talking to people, analyzing their movement, and understanding what they want to balance what they need.

I love the ability to run. Not to do it on a competitive level right now. I go through phases where I do it 5-6x a week and do less lifting but also can flip into a 180 and do 5-6x a week of lifting and less running. At the moment, I do what I can with the 30-45 minutes I can fit in a couple times a week.

This is less about me and more about “Hey I know what you’re feeling”.
Whether you’re a runner, a lifter, a climber, or a professional athlete.
It’s okay to take a break.

Can You Spare Me an Hour a Week?

What if I said, it will reduce injury, cut down on recovery, and make you be able to run faster?

Okay then. I’ll see you at Modern Movement Clinic or online because we can do that too!

Amazon Cart: Wedges⁣

If I was any good at math, I’d be a damn good engineer. It’s literally how I construct my assessments and rehab. It just makes sense with angles and joints, torque and tension. It’s allowed me to think less about spouting off random things they make you memorize at school and learn the bigger picture.⁣

So you read that and you’re like “what the hell does this have to do with wedges?”. You wanna run downhill and build more robust knees? How about using a wedge to emulate the downhill portion WHILE doing strength? Yeah so how about you calm down voice of public opinion!⁣

I use the wedge for loading joints a bit more, cueing, and simply just adding variety to someone’s strength training program.⁣

They cost practically nothing on Amazon and are a great tool for your training.⁣

💻Google: How Do I Strength?⁣

I get this question a lot and I’d rather you ask then follow whatever Jillian Michaels or someone named bunsinaweek is gonna tell you. We’ve been inundated with so many ideas nowadays from the internet and social media that it’s hard to know, “what works for me as a runner?”.⁣

I can tell you this wholeheartedly, and even beyond running and into other sports, simple is always best. In a world where we watch people juggle a kettlebell while doing a burpee, just pick up some damn weight. It’s not supposed to be entertaining in my humble opinion…it’s supposed to help make you be a stronger version of yourself.⁣

That’s why I program like this. It’s not flashy. It’s not gonna get a million likes and follows. But it’s gonna work and you’re not gonna get injured doing it. ⁣

Hit me with questions if you got em’ in my DMs. Or comment below on some of your favorite lifts and drills.

K-need Information?😏⁣

I’ve said it a million times. If load over exceeds capacity too heavily, we run the risk of pain. 🚨⁣

If you’re coming back from a pretty lengthy injury, what’s the rush? These roads ain’t going anywhere and neither are these trails. Enjoy the comeback, learn something along the way, learn something about yourself too.⁣

Injury is inevitable. Having fun is your choice.⁣

Enjoy your comeback and if you’re struggling through, we are here to help ❤️

We Have 🧠 This For a Reason⁣

With so much drama in the media socially, it’s hard rationalizing what bodily sensations can mean. But you, some how, some way, keep coming up with funky ass descriptions like every single day. ⁣

We often gain this from others around us or heaven forbid, your Doctor’s language and tone. Let’s keep it simple and let’s give you back the power of your own thoughts.⁣

Past experiences do help yes but so does logic. Start with:⁣

How am I feeling in this moment?⁣
How am I feeling moments after that moment?⁣
How am I feeling the day after that moment?⁣

It takes reps to actually get more accuracy. But I’ve said this before, think about being in a dark room that you don’t know where anything is. You wouldn’t just keep walking around bumping into stuff. You’re gonna find a wall, and then hopefully another, and another, and another and eventually maybe a light switch.⁣

Find your workable space. You might find some fun along the way. @ Golden, Colorado
