Hello Parents of Pack 551!

We hope your summer has been a fun one so far!

As September quickly approaches, so does the start of Den Meetings! We would like to hold a meeting for ALL Pack 551 Parents to talk about Leader positions, hand out books, and get everyone in the know-how about how Den Meetings and Pack Meetings work with the our small Pack. We will answer your questions and get everyone ready for the start of the 2017-2018 Scouting Year!

If you know someone who is interested in signing their son up for Cub Scouts, bring them along!

Please join us on Monday, August 14th at 6pm at the Methodist Church. This meeting is for parents only, so please do your best to make arrangements for your children.

Please hop on your e-mail and RSVP to the e-mail sent so I know you've received it and will be in attendance.

We sure had a blast at our annual Pack 551 "kicking off summer!" pool party! This was a Pack sponsored event that current and new members of the Pack, as well as their families, were welcome to attend!

Every Cub Scout who attended our pool party received a Unit Activity Segment. For our newcomers, this was their first Segment! Newcomers who were also in attendance at last month's bike rodeo also received their Bike Rodeo Segment!

After some snacks, handing out Segments, and a quick chat, we wasted no time jumping in the pool for an hour and a half of pool time fun!

Thank you to everyone who attended and brought a snack to share with the Pack! It might have been a bit breezy and cooler than expected, but we sure got lucky with having the sun come out to warm things up a bit for us!

Have a WONDERFUL and safe summer full of tons of FUN!

Details: Bring your swimsuit and towel. This is a FREE event for all current and newly signed up Pack 551 members and their family! Check in at the front desk and leave the # of swimmers in your family. ***Please plan on bringing a snack dish or a drink to share with the Pack.***

The dome will be down for our pool party! Please be sure to pack sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc.

On Monday, May 22nd, Pack 551 held our Spring Recruitment night, May Pack Meeting, and Bike Rodeo! All in one night!

Cub Scouts and their families in Pack 551, potential recruits, and Boy Scouts from Troop 551 were in attendance for a special night of Advancements and bike fun!

We had all of our Cub Scouts achieve Rank this month! Micah M, Addison J, and Grant H received their Tiger Badge. Mason M, Brody H, and Aaron L received their Wolf Badge. Anthony H, Malakai M, and Adan L received their Webelos Badge. Congratulations boys! You've all worked so hard this year and Pack 551 is proud of you all!

We held a special crossing over ceremony for Joseph W. who earned his Arrow of Light. His father and Den Leader, Rich W, with the help of members from our Council, facilitated the ceremony. Troop 551 was there to witness and welcome Joseph into their Troop. Our Pack, along with many friends and family, were there to show support and cheer Joseph on. Great work, Joseph! Pack 551 is proud of you! Enjoy your many upcoming adventures with your Troop!

We ended our evening with a fun Bike Rodeo that Officer Hunziker helped out with! Officer Hunziker set out cones and created a bike course for members and siblings of Pack and Troop 551 to ride through. Safety first! Everyone first walked the course before putting on their helmets and taking turns riding the course.

Our recruitment night was a success, we signed up two new boys who we will welcome into the Pack at our upcoming Pool Party. We also have a handful of potential recruits we hope will join us.

Thank you to everyone for all your work in helping to make our Recruitment Night, Pack Meeting, and Bike Rodeo and wonderful and successful night! Pack 551 thanks you!

A Scout is Helpful!

At our April Pack Meeting, Scouts learned it's great to show appreciation to those who are helpful. They each wrote a thank you card to someone who has helped them at some point in their lives. They will be delivering it or mailing it to that person this week!

Scouts also learned, while it's great to be helped, it's equally great to be the one doing the helping! They each wrote down three ways they plan to be helpful over the course of this next month! Parents are encouraged to work with their son to help him honor that list.

This month the Tigers earned their Jungle Belt Loop, with two Tigers, Addison J. and Micah M. earning their Bobcat Badge! Micah M. earned his Stories in Shapes, Family Stories, Tiger Theater, and Tiger Safe and Smart Belt Loops as well. Wow!

Wolves Aaron L. and Wyatt B. earned their Cyber Chip, with Aaron L. earning his Bobcat Badge as well!

Webelos 4th Anthony H., Malakai M., and Adan L. earned their Project Family Pin, with Adan L. also earning his Bobcat Badge!

Webelos 5th Joseph W. earned his Duty to God in Action Pin, as well as his outdoors-man Pin.

Great job, Scouts! Keep up the great work!

March's Pack Meeting was all about being BRAVE!.....but not necessarily in the "I'm not afraid" definition of brave.

What makes a Cub Scout brave? What makes a Cub Scout a Wonder Cub? How about upholding the Scout Oath and putting into practice the Scout Law!! That definitely makes you a brave Wonder Cub!

A Cub Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

When you follow rules and regulations, you are a Wonder Cub. When you go out of your way to help others in need, you are a Wonder Cub. When you do a good deed without expecting anything in return, you are a Wonder Cub. When you are brave and helpful in a situation when others are in need of help, you are a Wonder Cub!!

The boys were treated to a Wonder Cub skit performed by Rebecca H, and then got the opportunity to make their own Wonder Cub Super Hero capes! Thank you to all the parents and Leaders who helped with this activity!

Advancements this month included the Tiger Den earning their Rolling Tigers belt loop, the Wolf Den earning their Howling at the Moon belt loop, the Webelos 4th Den earning their Into the Woods Pin, and the Webelos 5th Den earning their Cyber Chip; with Kaden W. earning his Bobcat Badge!

We wrapped up the evening with the boys performing the Scout Law for us, and what it meant to a Wonder Cub.

Great work, boys! Now go forth and be the best Wonder Cub you can be!

The Webelos 4th Den took a field to Project Patch Family Center just outside of Goldendale, WA this past Sunday, March 26th!

While there, Webelos Den Leader Cris L. and our host Mr. Gary, talked to the boys about trees, plants, and wildlife. We learned how to count the rings of a tree, and learned how the light rings were the growth of the tree during warmer months, and the dark rings were where the tree was dormant in the cooler months. The size of the rings were indicative of how much water the tree got that season. Very cool!!

Webelos Scouts and their Siblings then braved the rain to make bark shadings, as well as sketching 6 different trees and 6 different plants while on a walkabout with Gary. Despite the pouring rain through half of the field trip, we had a great time and the boys completed their requirements for their Into the Woods Webelos Pin!

Great work, Scouts!

TOMORROW, March 27th, is our March Pack Meeting! 6pm at the Methodist Church! PLEASE DO NOT FORGET YOUR FUNDRAISER MONEY IF YOU HAVE SOLD ALL OF YOUR PRODUCT. You have until April 2nd to sell all of your product and get your money to us, however, getting your money to us tonight would be easy and most convenient for all. Thank you and see you tonight!

On Thursday, February 23rd, the Webelos Den took a trip to the ambulance hall at the Goldendale hospital to talk with first responders as part of the requirements for their First Responder Pin.

The boys got to see and learn about items the first reponders keep in their medical bags, how they use them, why, and when.

The first responders told us about the schooling they had to do in order to perform this job, some of the different types of calls they've been on, and how it is important to know to call 911 and give your address in case of an emergency.

The boys asked many great questions: "What was your last emergency call?" "What kind of shift do you work?" "What should I do if I got bit by a snake?" "Can you still get to me in bad weather?"

They took turns having their blood pressure, oxygen level, and heart rate read. They even got to take home a print out of their heart beat! The best part was getting to go inside the ambulance and check it out!

A BIG THANK YOU to the gentlemen at the ambulance hall who took the time to give us a tour and share their knowledge.
